lo skinnystringers :)

droppin by from the dark side to search for some advice.. i have a telecaster i traded and i figured.. hey.. im a mm bass player, why not have some real guitars too? ;)

ive been lookin at a cpl of guitars.. namely a ass with rosewood body and neck and a cpl of mm90's. the other one is an al sss in translucent red. both are within reach price wise.

i have found myself having a thing for that gold sparkle al showed at the bash, but at the same time i absolutely love the thought of a rosewood guitar :) that dark wood is just.. so dang nice!

id love a guitar with a lil more versatility than the tele. its mostly use it to "pretend" i can play guitar, and lay down rhythm guitar on my fumble homerecording tracks :)

any advice would be appreciated! :)

Go try on the Albert Lee sss hardtail. feel it, hold it and start squeezing notes. it will make you smile. but the silo is cool too. as is the ass and so on. I hope you let us know what you liked.

It's really tough to pick one when you're not sure exactly what you want.

I'd say the ASS MM90 and Albert SSS are both great choices though- to some extent it will depend which neck you like. The Albert neck is a little bigger, might suit you better since you play bass.

Both will give you "twang". The MM90 pickups are a bit meatier and distort great. The Albert's SSS pickups get "quack" in the middle positions. So different sounds to be had by both.

Honestly, play both and pick the one that feels better. I'm guessing your going to find one easier to play than the other, sounds aside.

I had a Rosewood w/90's and it is a great guitar. If you like it and one is available I'd say go for it. A tele on steroids. If you're used to the body shape and playing position of the tele - i.e. no arm bevel, then the ASS transition should be fine.

The AL is the other choice. Its a bit more ergonomic and is the best balanced guitar out there. It plays a bit more stratty than tele all around, but has the twangier tele style bridge pup.

Welcome to light side

Hey, play them and decide, only you know what rocks your world, but if your are looking for opinions, then heres my 2 cents, go for the AL much more versatile, very cool to look at and well balanced, the rosewod ASS was not to my liking, did not like the feel of the neck the way it felt or sounded, plus as some have said before reminded me of my Moms coffee table from the 70's. Plus trans Red is a great color:D

MrM - my 2 pence worth-

The AL neck is not that big a neck and I did find it similar to an Axis neck.
The neck on my Limited Edition AL feels a bit bigger.

Rosewood is nice on my 06 LEAL, but the feel of the maple neck on my BCB is sublime - it's the best neck I have ever felt.

I never ever play my Les Paul since I got my AL.
It's not just a one trick pony and will cover a lot of bases.

Out of my SSS and MM90 equipped AL's - I do prefer the SSS.

Another thing - get one with Piezo - you won't regret it !!!

thanks for your advice :)
testing is not an option at this time, so ill just have to take your word..

i think the al would be the best choice of those 2 if im to think versatility.. if im gonna be sensible id better not buy anything, or else the mrs prolly would make a nice lil fire of all my "wood with strings on em" collection :D ;)

For my money, compare a Tele with an Axis super sport (MM90's)! Sounds like a cross between a Les Paul Jr. and a Tele. Sweet tones! The AL with 3 MM90's must simply be tonal Nirvana!

AL sss. The bridge pu position is an excellent Tele tone while having it's own voice at the same time.

An important question would be, what did you like about the Tele? The feel, or the sound, and what sounds do you need to be able to get for your projects?

I like Tele guitars, and have never liked Straty shaped guitars, oops I said it, but mostly for the feel and not particularly the sound. I'm not a country guy or anything. It seems an Axis may feel the most like a Tele with it's slab of wood body style, but the Al may get closer to the sound.

I may be in the same boat as you as I'm overhauling my Tele for possibly a farewell, to get something different.

Get what you need and what feels great too. My $.02

since im not completely fluid in engrish i might have asked the question the wrong way...
i really should have asked which guitar i should get, not which guitar should replace the telecaster :)
i like strats, i like floyds, i like twang. id like a guitar that i can play the blues on, that i can pretend i know country pickin on, that i can learn chords on. i cant play but like ive said: if im gonna learn why not learn it on a proper guitar ;)
come to think of it i like most guitars except prs! i dont care what people say, those dingos sound like there are 2 guitars on top of eachother. one defining the tone and one making that $%#/ annoying "waspnest recorded via longdistance call from the outskirts of nairobi" fuzz sound! a filter for that (and santana) would make the guitar better.. still not buyable, but better ;)

id love to get a bfr, but my budget is limited this time.. hehe.. spent too much on basses :)
