HELP pretty please with replacemnt nut and set up

The nut of my Silhouette has broken (cracked under the low E) so there is buzz when I strum the low E string.

Anyway, my first question is, are Music Man guitar nuts made form plastic or bone.

I went to my local guitrar shop today to see how much it would cost for a new nut and for the guitar to be properly set up,

anyway he said that the nut would cost abour £20 for a plastic one, or £30 for a bone nut, which he'd need to hand carve. It would then cost another £25 or so to have the guitar set-up professionally.

Does that sound like an ok deal, because the price seems a bit steep.

The other thing is whether or not I should get a bone/plastic nut replacement,

Bone nuts used to be de rigeur - after all if they are good enough for Les Pauls !!
However the nut fitted to the EBMM appears to be plastic - I'm sure Dudley or Jon will flame me for calling it plastic due to it being called something very Exotic.

The Earvanna (After market compensated ) nuts also seem made of plastic but their web site would tell you. I would get one of those and ask your repair guy to fix it.

£25 isn't ripping you off.

Not at all. Under 100 quid with a new bone nut seems absolutely fair.

Yes, customer support is helpful with replacement nuts. I ordered a few a while back. They came two to a pack. I have proper tools and experience for cutting a nut properly, so it was no big deal. If you have never done it before you probably want to take it to someone with experience. My 2 cents.

Ok cheers guys. So do you think I should go for regular plastic, or go crazy and get the bone nut. Maybe even a different colour like black. What does everyone think, it's for this guitar:

If it were we, I'd just call MM and get a geniune replacement. Best customer service in the business.

(Other option is to try something like the Earvana nut, if you're interested in the compensated nut approach.)

I agree. But I like the tone of Bone on the open strings.

But add a trem in, I'm a graphite or 'tusq' fan.
