Hi folks,

A few days ago, I finally got my first EBMM guitar - the Axis SS. It was the Axis SS w/ roasted maple neck. Man, my first impression, the pics you see don't justify the looks of this guitar! That Black Sugar body with roasted neck is really unbelievable! But after playing it for a couple of days, I sadly realized that it's not for me :( The "un-contoured" body of the Axis was really bothering me. After a couple of days of playing, I started feeling an uncomfortable pain in my forearm. I only play sitting down, and I usually play for at least a couple of hours per session. Maybe, it's the way I play but either way I have to find a replacement.

Here are the things I like about the Axis SS:
- The Neck - I have a small hands and the neck on the Axis guitars are so comfortable to play with! The sad part, whatever guitar I play in the future, I would always think of that neck. I may eventually like some other neck profile, but I don't think I would love it the way I love the Axis neck!

- Sound versatility - I like playing Metallica songs, but I also like to play very clean sounding songs (finger-picking style). The number 2 and 4 positions of the PUPs are amazing. It gives me the clean sound I'm looking for.

- None tremolo - I don't use the tremolo and probably never will :)

So, kind folks, will you please give me some suggestions on to whick EBMM guitar I should consider. I was at GC yesterday and tried the Reflex. So far I'm leaning towards it. It looks like I could get the similar sounds you get from Axis and it's really comfortable to play with. The neck, it's ok for now. I tried the JP's, I'm not digging the neck on those guitars. I've heard good things about the Silo and Silo S. It's really hard to find EBMM guitars around my area, even though I only live about 100 miles away from San Luis Obispo, CA. What do you think guys?

Thanks,
Newbie

OK understood not every guitar is for everyone, trust me I know!

Based on what you have said, try a Luke III, think you will be happy, I prefer HH but HSS is awesome to, neck perfect, body has comfortable contours, coil boost, and killer new DiMArzio Luke speced pups.

Try one make you GC bring one in!

Thanks on the suggestions! I guess I don't have to play the tremolo. Do you think HH will give you the similar clean sound you get from the Axis SS?

Yes it will and I like the tones even better, both clean and dirty. And yep you can lock the trem down it is super easy.

I would call my local GC and see if they could get me one. I was an accoustic guitar player and this will be my only second electric guitar, so I might still pay someone to lock that tremolo down for me :)

You should also try the Silhouette.

It is an amazing piece of instrument, that has an amazing neck, a great profile and it sounds amazing.

Thanks! I've heard the Silo Special and the Reflex have the same profile. I tried the Reflex yesterday and I find the neck profile to be a Ok. I think I will like it more if I play it a little bit longer. How could you describe the neck profiles between the Silo and Silo special?

I have a Silho special at home (SSS) and it is amazing. The feel of the neck is gorgeous and the profile fits my hand perfectly...I haven´t spent much time with a Silho (non special) so I couldn´t tell the difference really.

You should go and try them. Only playing them you´ll be able to fully decide which one is best for you!

Good luck!!

I also have a Silo Special HSS and the neck is one of the best I've ever played.

I understand you wanting some crunch and then clean, I've always played a lot of Punk and Ska, which needs both.

Try a Silo Special HSS. You may find love in one! :)

You can get a Reflex without a Trem it really is the Balls. Super comfortable when sitting down and ten tone options not including your fingers. Had mine four months and they can bury me with it.

I can't believe nobody yet said Al HH!

Same pickups in the Axis SS but the body is soooooo comfortable.

There is your answer right there.

So far I'm narrowing down my search between Reflex, Silo/Silo Special and the Luke. Thanks for the suggestion!

You may want to look into the piezo option as well if you were primarily an acoustic player. Its fantastic for fingerstyle alone or as i prefer blended w magnetic pickups. Not offered on all models though...not sure about Luke III
