Has anyone got any ideas on installing a thumbrest on a stingray. I've searched the net and found thumbrests but they need to be screwed in. The last thing I want to do is drive screws into my precious stingray (noooooo!!!) So, anyone any ideas or pics of solutions. Help.... :( :( :(

I even rest my thumb on the E string when I'm not using it on my 4 strings. But I do understand why you would want one if you're used to it. Could you bond one somehow to the pickguard? Maybe even use panhead screws countersunk into the back of the pickguard and screwed in from the backside? That way you would'nt have to drill holes into the body.

If you dont put too much force down on the thumb rest, you could use a piece of adhesive velcrow to attatch the thumb rest to the pg or body, thats the only thing i can think of that wont really involve drilling into anything or damaging the finish

I grew up playing Pbasses and much of your tone comes from your right hand and where you pluck. With a thumbrest you tend to just play in that position. I tend to use the area right from the bridge to well over the fretboard to vary the tone. It gives you a nice range of sound without fiddling with knobs.

And if you REALLY must insist on a thumbrest (?), then better to put glue on the PG, right?

or

i would get a new pg i dont care about, then drill wholes in it for the thumb rest. get some screws that fit perfectly flush with the pg on the back. then covoer the screws up with some medical tape on the back so no scratching is done.
