Help, the ground prong snapped of my amp plug, is it still safe?

Its my peavey 5150, i would just get a new plug but its not the kind of amp that has a jack to plug in the power cord, it just comes out of the amp. Is the amp still fine, it works, but im not gonna get shocked rght? Prob not,? What do i do?

No biggie. You have two options. 1. Snip the plug and attach a new plug or 2. Order a new cord from Peavey. Option one is the easy fix. Just pick one up from Lowes/Hom Depot or another hardware store. No soldering required.

Get the ground plug fixed or your asking for serious trouble.

Personally, I would take it to a repair shop and pay the 20 bucks, but if you have the time and tools its not hard.

How do you break the prong off?


Like Ben said, it is easy if you know what you are doing. BUT if you are not comfortable opening up the amp and replacing the cable or cutting the existing cable and installing a plug on it, take it to a shop and have it replaced. Grounds are there for safety reasons. Don't take the risk.

If you do not know what your doing take it to a qualified tech. Lots of transient voltages in an amp, the tubes, capacitors etc.

And yes you need an earth ground, Zerofive four points are relevant!

When i unplugged it from the wall the ground prong was stuck in the outlet, it must have been loose for some reason. I just git the amp used, otherwise in incredible shape.

The sum of human knowledge (some of it even true! ) is on YouTube - spend a dollar and then look up "how to replace a plug" and you'll be done in 10 minutes. Almost can't screw it up!

Problem solved!!!!! I bought a replacement plug at home depot and cut the old plug of and stripped the wire and attached the new one! Simple, and looks good too!
