I received a set of Schaller tuners from @click track (thanks!) and got them installed today. The posts are about 3mm shorter but I figured what the heck. What’s the harm in more angle from the nut to the string post? I’ve stretched the strings but I’m still letting the guitar settle in. We’ll see how the tuning holds up. That’s about the only thing I can think of which may be a problem with a bit more angle. NGD post forthcoming once things settle down with the guitar.

EDIT - I just found this on the philadelphialuthier website in the Gotoh locking tuner description. It explains why my new locking tuners posts are shorter! And they are exactly what’s described below in terms of difference in length.

“Locking tuning machines will use a shorter post than non-locking tuning machines. The string posts are on average about 1/16" (2-3mm) shorter so you will have the proper downward pressure at the nut and increased tuning stability.“
