Hi everyone. For a long time I played a Musicman JPX Turquoise Pearl with a roasted maple neck with a classic CrunchLab and LiquiFire Set. I was happy with that guitar. Today I saw an interesting variant of JP XV on sale. I read about the booster and about the wonderful Illuminator set, which was said to sound brighter and more open. Curiosity got the best of me. I went and bought this guitar.
After playing at home I was shocked. The sound was very dark, the highs were almost gone with JPX, except that on the highgain there was a very cool tight bass on the palm mute. I already thought I was sold a Chinese copy, but the piezo works as well as the booster, stereo works as well.
I've always found Petrucci guitars to be very versatile, with both great clean and powerful overdrive. But today something went wrong.
I expected there wouldn't be much difference in tone. But it turned out the other way around. The guitar is plugged into a Fractal FM3, I play with headphones. Could it be something broken in the guitar or some settings that I don't know about. I will be grateful for answers.
