Hi

I recently noticed that i cant realy play descending parts of solos I work hard as a ground worker and my hands are getting tired by doing this but I still want to play any kind of legato thing but I dont know how to practice it.

Can anyone give me any ideas how work it out with metronome that would be great also my string muting is crap I actually feel crap saying that(writing in this case) ;/

I think it would be a good idea to watch Rock Discipline by JP. Esp.the part where he warms up WITHOUT the guitar.. These stretches do help a lot and I do try to follow 'em before I sit down for some noodling..

Also,I would suggest practicing scales/modes up n down the neck . Eg. A maj (Ionian), one strike per string and the hammer ons n pull offs by the finger.. (Unless i am confusing what Legato means :D)

Edit : Found this using a quick search -- Should be good for building up some fluency -- http://www.guitarnoise.com/lesson/legato-playing-part-1/

Hope it helps! And keep Playing \m/

Also, Justin Sandercoe has legato lessons on his site. Starts out with just straight picked scales up and down the neck and then on to just hammer ons then just pull offs then everything.

Palm muting. Hmmmm.....I guess I just love playing Van Halen so much I just soaked it in by osmosis or something. I must have played Ain't Talkin' About Love 89 bazillion times.

practice in blocks of 6 minutes, playing as long as your left hand allows and then stopping. if you can play 5 out of 6 minutes without losing stamina, you're done at that speed. work on one string before moving anywhere else.

MUTING IS PARAMOUNT! as soon as your muting is in place, everything else will sound better. try playing your favorite 7 note scale along each string, in 3 note patterns until the muting is perfect on each string. remember: index tip muting, palm muting and finger tip release muting.
