That's a beautiful design, BP. I love how something as simple as a tuner becomes a work of art.

Looking at the Reflex close up at the headstock, I can see where the plan might be to have these as the new design.

With the Ray...personally the big old school ones suit it, but who knows. :)

They look great - the light weight will be good especially for a 5.

Can't picture em on anything but a Reflex at the moment - maybe a Big Al - not sure about a Bongo.

Look at the picture of the prototype mounted on the headstock. Look at it very carefully... 1 hole has the tuner in it, there are 3 holes that are not concealed by the tuner... 2 big and one small... that can be the headstock of a certain past or present model.

This is only an observation... I will leave the speculation too others :D

I think what we see here is not different diameters but a distortion resulting from a wide angle photo lens.

If anyone knows if this is going to be made for the Big Al, then I might put mine on hold with my dealer as its not been on order more than a week or so.

My observation: I'm guessing the photo is a mock up neck for photographic purposes - the underside / back of the neck looks to be carved roughly and unfinished to a playable smoothness...

This 'mock up' headstock could also account for the hole size if it isn't the perspective change [or vanishing point in the view] as mentioned by Guenter. It makes sense that EBMM would try various diameters...

Sweet tuners either way!

Looks pretty sweet!
It's different in a good way, I think it will look great on MM basses.

I like it!:)

Here are some sneak peaks of the new tuners. Here is what makes them swingin:

Uses 20:1 gear ratio for same feel at Schaller tuner
Slightly "twised" peghead for ergonomic feel
Lightweight design (close to half the weight of the Schaller tuner, about 1/2 lb savings on 5-string)
Easy change peghead, so we could make more peghead options (pearl, maybe a clover style?)
Semi-enclosed design aesthetically pleasing, but allows worm to be greased and protected.
Low profile post should eliminate need for string retainer
