I've been kicking around the idea of a full blown rig. Not that I need one but something more than my little BA112 might be nice. So MM and GK seem to be a good mix and I've been considering the Neo cabinets but I'm unsure of getting a largish 212 or 115. Soooo, how about a 112 then adding another 112 as needed. I would think a nice 700 or 1001 would be at home driving one or a pair, no?

I would encourage you to look into the the 115 or 212.My 212 is only 64 lbs. and vey easy to move around and the 115 is even lighter. If you do go for a pair of 112's I would get the 700RBII as the 1001RBII would mostly likely be too much for a single 112 to handle unless you were very careful.Let me know if you have any more questions.

I'll post up another vote for opting for the 212. That cab handles pretty much anything my 1001 can throw at it. It has an awesome tone and definatly allows you to be felt and heard. As if the tone werent enough, the weight of the cab just amazes me, I bring it up and down stairs, in and out of car without breaking a sweat. They're seriously great amps and compliment my EBMM very very nicely. Happy shopping!

PS. I also believe that GK will be coming out with a neo 410 cab if thats more toward your likeing, and if you're willing to wait.

I only need a pair of the GK10's connected to my 400RB. My real power goes through the desk and into a 2K Mackie system and I get a nice warm sound with plenty of cut through for my monitoring

I've owned (and otherwise played) a plethora of GK products, and while I don't currently own one they are not one of the biggest names in the biz for no reason. Good stuff.

I'd recommend getting the 1001 II, as headroom is always your friend. Starting with one cab is fine, and if possible you should probably taste test as they all will sound different. Later you can of course add another cab (assuming you matched "ohmage" correctly)...

Ditto... the 212s have a nice clear sound and have very nice depth to them (handles my Bongo 5 without any problems). The 1001 is much louder then you would think for its wattage rating (and the 2001 is insane) and would probably be far too much for almost any 1-12 cab. The 212 cab is suprisingly small and lightweight (it is bad when my rack is heavier than my cab) and it moves some serious air. Good hunting!

Freddy,
You aren't derailing the thread. Just adding diversity. ;)

Randy,
Good point on the 1001RB-II with the 112. I was poking around GK's website and found this:

http://www.gallien-krueger.com/products_artist_co_neo700.html#

So I may just do the separates version of it and add a 112 as needed. Yes, I may need more one day but since I only play to the crickets in my living room, I don't feel like getting something way to big (not physically but aurally)

Tom. There are also combos. Theres a 700RB Neo112 combo and a 1001RB Neo 212 combo. That seems like it would be ideal for you and you could add a Neo112,
212, or 115 depending on what you needed. Just a thought. I think the Neo cabs are a great compliment to the EBMM tone. While the Avatar cabs are a good value, I really dont think theyll sound as good as the Neos.

I have a 1001RBII with a Neo 2x12 and an RBH 1x15. Great sounding rig.

Since I'm lazy and don't want to carry 2 cabs, I've been using just the Neo 2x12 lately, and it really puts out by itself. No real need for the 1x15 - except maybe to get the Neo 2x12 speakers closer to ear height. I think you'll be extremely happy with this set-up.

My preference is to leave the amp flat (so I can adjust it based on the room). I run the presence and the contour controls all the way off, and run with the tweeter amp barely on (maybe 1 or 2).

With my Bongos I have all the tonal variation that I need right on the bass.

To support the weight claims, the 2x12's are really easy to manage. They are fairly compact, and they are light. I have a bad back (broke 3 vertabrae 4 years ago) and I have no issues with lugging mine around.

I'm still thinking I'd like to try a pair of Neo 12s as a possible replacement for my Bag End 15s. I like the Bags lots, but wonder if the Neos would give me better 5 string response.

KKKKKKKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNN. Whats up bro?

The Neo212 has killer B string response. What I like most though is how sweet they are across the whole spectrum. As a long time GK player, Im stoked to see all the folks "finding" GK. Their RBH cabs were my cab before the Neos, but the Neos really take things to the next level IMO.

If you need anything more specific let me know.

Yes on #1 and No on #2. No on #2 because I've finally decided. Now I just need to put together the scratch. Gonna get a 700RB and Neo112, either as a combo or separates. Then add a cab as needed. Gotta Bongo on the way and trying to pay off the truck by May. So it is gonna be a few months but at least I finally decided. :D Maybe I'll keep an eye on Ebay.

You know,

I must admit, that lately the 2X12 combo in one of the bass labs at school has been sounding quite good with my baby. The EQ is 12 'o clock except for bass and treble at 2 'o clock with a little contour and presence. I guess I realized after listening to John Scofield's "Loud Jazz" that I'm going for a more pure, unmistakeably MM sound. So, now both my practice amp and gigging rig are set at noon. It's easier to EQ from the bass anyway. :)

Thats' exactly what I like about the GK stuff. I noticed you play an SM-500 which has a great sounding pre and is considered by many to be a classic.I used to play an SM-400S myself, however I find that the GK pre sounds much more like my bass does straight to the board and requires much less EQ tweaking to find a pleasing sound. Anyways, just my 2 cents. That's all.
