El Dude-O has never been lacking in personality or opinions or the willingness to say what he thinks.

You may disagree with him, and I'm sure he wouldn't mind one bit, but you never have to guess about where he's coming from. Sure, if I think you're an idiot, I probably won't come right out and say, "You know, you're really an idiot." Steve probably would. (Notice how he accuses me of being "PC". It's not a compliment, I suspect, in his book.)

We are very different people, Steve and I, but we are both loyal to our friends and committed to the bass community. If I miss a sale because someone doesn't enjoy Mister Internet Personality, I guess I can live with that.

Another thing I do know is that he will do everything he can to make his customers happy. I have seen it many, many times - Steve going the extra mile, sometimes the extra million miles, to make sure that things are exactly right. I've seen him lose money to do it, too.

He hardly needs me to defend him, and he'll almost surely call me up and berate me for it, but I don't mind.

Anyway. You guys ever hear El Grupo Live?

That Luke feller sure can play guitar.

OW! Dammit, I bit my tongue again.

Suffice it to say that the Dude's colorful personality and willingness to vent his opinion regardless of decorum or consequences, as fun as those traits may be if you're not in the line of fire, costs him (and you) business.

'nuff said.

On the same note I think that gets them business as well. Every dealer can pretty much do the same deal. If people click with the The Dude's "Vibe" that might encourage some more business. You never know

I know that working with Steve, I'll never have to consider selling Warwicks.

HEY I'M JUST KIDDING!

Wait, no I'm not.

Paul makes a good point. You can buy your Stingrays and Bongos from all kinds of dealers. We have some great ones right here on the board. If you don't know it already, I'll tell you - the prices aren't going to be considerably different.

So it's your money. You want to buy from me and Steve? God bless you. We'll do all we can to make sure you're happy. And so will the other dealers here. I know them and I respect them and I wouldn't hesitate to send them business if I can't get you what you need.

Right or wrong, I consider you guys family. Steve does, too.

Did I mention I'm listening to Steve Lukather, who is seriously kicking my butt?

Also, I'm basically unemployed again, which is nice.

Cheers!

The Dude's one of the reasons I like to pop on over to the Bass side of this forum. We certainly have some characters here, which is why I check in several times a day :)

The reason I buy from Dude is that he's straight up, plus his forum is a great service for the bass playing community. The Dudepit costs money to run, and the bills are paid out of Steve's income, so I'm happy to support his business even despite the things he posts at 3.00am after a twelver of Becks.

I'll attest to that, on the part of both Jack and Dude! Both of these guys worried more about my pickguard order than I did (there was a foul-up from the factory; it happens every now-and-then; NBD).

If they worried that much about a small item, I have complete faith in both of their abilities to go the extra mile for their customers! It speaks volumes about their real characters.

If Dude comes off as salty, so what...I'll take that over some smiling *ssholes bullsh*t any day.

The Dude can take it as well as he gives it, too. And, I don't mean that in a British cigarette way, either. I made the mistake of taking him too seriously once.

But, now, I wear "Poophead" like a badge of honor.

Um....that sounded better in my head.

I make the shop I like the most get me what I want if they don't already have it in stock.
Pricing's about the same, service and attitude isn't.
If I lived in the USA I would definitely buy my stuff from Jack, although Steve scares me some...

I like having the Dude around... warts and all. It adds color to the canvas.
That goes for a lot of people here. We have many characters. It's interesting to stuff them all into a little corner of cyberspace and see how they interact. What a great social experiment! :)

And I'd buy from Jack & Dude, Pete, or Doug in a hearbeat if my local dealer didn't take such good care of me. If my local ever slips up, I've got a whole line of 'good fellas' to choose from! ;)

If you buy from Jack you are buying from Steve. Jack isn't a dealer himself...he represents Steve.

Speaking only for myself, I like to reward good service, merchants who tell the truth and know what they're talking about, a good attitude and respect for the customer.

And, you get every one of those things with the scary Jack/Steve Beast. He might not blow smoke up your butt (without a surcharge, anyway), but you'll always get exactly what's advertised for a competitive price and prompt service with a smile (okay, insane smirk--semantics, really).

Ad I thought you were going keep this vendetta off my forum?

You have made it clear that you don't appreciate the way the dude has talked to you on this forum. Im a little upset after your 2 pms yesterday and you agreeing to keep it off my forum and then hours later beating your drum again. I'm not taking sides because I dont even remember which thread you guys did battle. Like a big disfuntional community or family not everyone is going to get along. Not everyone will understand or appreciate various contributors humor, passion, bs, or responses to topics that are trivial in the big picture, but very important to those of us who share a passion for guitars and basses.

Not every forumite chooses to buy from Guitar Center, some wont buy from the Dude, some will only buy from pete, and some like Heath will buy solely on availibility and price. Life is about options, thats why we have more than one customer for you to support. I can tell you that all of the participating dealers here go way above and beyond in their involvement and commitment to getting you what you need. If all my dealer were so supportive I would be emailing this from my private island.

Ah, well, I hate to do this to any thread and this is the second one I've nuked in the last couple of days, but some things just assume a life of their own and you never know if that life is going to make it past a certain stage.

I know this:

1. If you don't want to patronize a certain dealer, whether it be me and Steve or Guitar Center or Bass Central or Walmart, then don't. But let's not make it an issue here, please.

2. Don't PM Big Poppa!

Alright, off to better things, eh?

Jack
