My Big Al is Vintage Sunburst with a Rosewood fretboard too, but I ordered mine with a matching headstock and a black pickguard.

can anyone who's played one comment on the overall feel of the Big AL. i read a lot about the cool tones and electronics and realize the neck is 1.5" at the nut. Does it hang and play like a Sterling? more like the Bongo? i know, it's all subjective.

I can not predict the future, but I think it highly unlikely that you will see that happen. Just like you won't see Bongo guts in a Ray and a pickup selector switch on a Bongo.
