OK, so I have my Morse exactly where I like it now but recently I developed a hankering for some true, sweet single coil sounds.

Just a quick question, for pure SSS sounds, is the AL better than say a Silo Spec?

Thanks,

I tried KBaim's AL for a few weeks/months and it just nailed the single coil tones. I dabbled with DWF1004's original Blue Dawn Silo Spec but didn't really get the chance to run it through the paces probably because he also left his EVH over here.......:D

Can't speak from experience since there are no lefty ALs, but the P/Us are different, Duncans on the AL & DiMarzios on the SS.
Personally I was never a big fan of the single coil sounds on my SS which is why it now has Fender Samarium Cobalt P/Us on it....it sounds more Fenderish to me now which is what I wanted.
I do appreciate it's probably stupid to buy a guitar & then spend money trying to make it sound like something else!

Darrel and Keith are awesome Pug, and Darrel's Silo Special is an original Blue Dawn, very nice. If you see Darrel, please tell him I said "Hi".

Between the AL SSS and the Silo Spec it's either way :p

AL SSS is more vintage vibe while silo SSS is more modern

I had an AL with MM90 and this is really a great great axe maube you should consider another one

As soon as I put Glenn's SS pickups in my sublhouette, I'll do a comparison with the Al and write a long winded and overly descriptive comparison.

:D

I won't be able to compare to a strat, since I've never owned one.

...wasn't there a mention by BP about an AL in the factory with Lollars installed? I had the pleasure of hearing/playing some last weekend and they just were incredible (plus the guy who has them installed in his custom built guitar was a monster player as well) I would imagine they would work really well in the Southern Ash that makes up the original Alberts.......

I do remember reading that Tommy drops in individual Lollars in some of his guitars but could have sworn BP mentioned an AL with a set of Lollars

A heard the Lollar rumour too. Although I heard they where in a Reflex proto, which obviously has not made the final guitars currently floating around. It's cool to see EBMM are constantly trying things

Thanks for the tidbit, Colin. I hadn't heard that bit about the Reflex proto w/Lollars. I agree that it is very cool that the mad scientists at EBMM are willing to try just about anything !!

Interesting reading - if I had to choose between my AL's I would go with the SSS - but hey that's just my opinion - I know that Rob hankers after the MM90's. Mine "chimes" really well and spanks as much as I like. Never had a bad comment about my AL tone.

So for me SSS are my fav.

I'm gonna say something completely different...get a LUKE :D. You can do almost anything with that guitar.

SSS is great in both the AL and the Silhouette Special. AL to my ears sound a little more vintage (in the best possible way) and the Silhouette Special sounds a bit more modern single coil (again, in the best possible way).
