any of you tried restring your stingray 5 to .... E A D G C so throw the low B away and moves everything up and add a high C string, how it sounded? is it recommended? since i rarely use my B, just happy to see it there, i might as well add a high C for more chords and melody capabilities ... any thoughts?

Probably work, but you'd have to put a different nut on since the strings will be smaller. You don't use low B string? I was forced into drop tuning for some songs before I started using 5 string. Low B is much more important to me than more HIGH notes. Just MO.

Hey, Johans. I did a High-C tuning on my ESP five banger. No problems as far as fret buzz due to the discrepancies in the string gauges and the corresponding slots in the nut. I actually found no use for the High-C so I returned to the standard BEDAG after a short time.

I've got a US Curbow that I've had strung up EADGC for years without ever changing the nut. You can certainly try out the tuning before you spend the money to get a new nut installed, at least.

I don't really like 6 string necks, but I do like the chording options a high C string provides. I have my Curbow set up with TI Jazz Flats, and it sounds amazing. It's currently being refinished, and I'm really starting to miss it.

I wouldn't string up one of my Bongos with the tuning (maybe some recording with the piezos and some nylon strings), but I have enough nice basses that I can have some specialized instruments.

Go for it, it'll just cost you a set of strings.

I have tried it on another of my basses and it's definitely a great option to have at hand, if for nothing else than expanding some bits of harmonic knowledge and chording.You might never use the licks on a gig but I'm banking on my ears appreciating the chord recognization work out

I usually just buy a 4 string set, and then order a single high C string separately. www.juststrings.com sells single strings, and I get my single 'C's from the same place I get my other TIs--www.thedudepit.com.

You won't regret it. I really like the way chords sound with the TI Flats. Plus, no string noise so you can slide chords up and down the neck with abandon.

Well, you could do that, too. But, since the low B is the most expensive string in the pack, you'll be paying a good bit for a string you have no intention of using.

Of course, if you end up not like the EADGC tuning, you would have the low B to switch it back to BEADG.
