Does anyone know if there are two versions of this model, straight and tapered? I just received a Hipshot BT1 and am surprised by how much of a difference there is from the original tuners on my Musicman Sterling. The key and post both stick out further and the post is straight unlike the others which are tapered. I called Guitar Center and they assured me it was the correct part for the bass. I also called and left a message at Hipshot.

Hipshot can provide a tapered replacement post. It's not exactly the same form as the MusicMan/Schaller tuners, but close enough to not stick out anymore.

FYI: The shape/curvature of the tapered post for the BT1 matches that of the Hipshot tuners fit on Lakland four string basses.

Hipshot good to go :)

Cool, just checking. I've installed it on my Sterling and it's awesome! Hipshot has a great video on their website that covers the procedure step by step:

BT1 > Store > Hipshot Products

I've been using it on the bass for about an hour of play, flipping between E and D a couple of dozen times now, and it's staying in tune. Yeah it doesn't look exactly like the other tuners but it's functionality far outweighs the ugly duckling factor. Glad I got it!
