I guess there have been some changes in the stock pick ups over the years.
Would be nice to hear some opinions about how tone changes too in the past.

I don't know the details but I believe the first ones came out with Schaller (?) pickups. Then at some point they swapped to DiMarzio PAF Pros because they were more popular. Then, when the Silhouette Special was released (97? I'm bad with dates) they changed to Virtual PAFs which is what it is sporting now. The single coil is a DiMarzio custom wound. You can easily tell which DiMarzios they are. The PAF pro looks like this:

While the Virtuals look like this:

DiMarzio doesn't seem to be selling and/or making the Virtual PAF's anymore. I don't know if EBMM has a stockpile of them currently or a special agreement with DiMarzio to keep on making them for the Silo...
I would think it is possible that the Silo may get different pickups again real soon...

I didn't care for the Virtual Paf's at all personally, I ordered a new set of Dimarzio's the same night I received my new(used) dargie II silo.

What did you replace the Virtual PAF's with? I like the Virtual PAF's a lot but I do plan on buying another Silo in the future and experimenting with hotter pickups.

coming from years of playing Ibanez guitars, late 80's RG550's to be exact. always got the job done, and I have several with several different pickup configurations. which is why I picked the Silo HSH and 5 way switch as a new but familiar path. My go to axe has Humbucker From Hell in the Neck, Area 58, and Tone Zone in the Bridge, can pretty well get any sound I need in a particular moment, the HBH is glassy chimey for cleans, smooth and singing for leads, and mixed with the 58 sounds more like a strat than a strat, and the tone Zone is pure power, can do it all, all together has a very warm tone and not at all thin like you would expect from a super thin necks on the ibanez. The Silo had a much brighter sound, could be the alder body, the ebony fretboard, I'm not sure, so I'm looking for a similar sound and controlability,I went with the HBH, Area 67 (had one laying around) and AT-1. I just got the guitar last week and haven't received the replacements yet. I'll keep you all posted...in the mean time I purchased a JP6 roasted 2 days ago...not sure I'll get around to replacing those pickups after all.
