First 5 string....hmmmm........that's one of the things not on Wikipedia (that I can find).

Wikipedia is a joke IMHO...Anyone who thinks they know someting about anything can post..Others read it and take it as gospel. A plethora of misinformation.

Whenever I read stufff there, I am reminded of what Frank Zappa said about rock mags. "People that can't write, interviewing people who can't talk, for people who can't read."
I'm sure there is some good info there, but you never will know if what you read is truth or just bs. I'm just sayin.

There's good info and bad in wikipedia. Studies have shown that, for the most part, it's ok. Bad information lots of places. It seems like the internet is worse because it give you access to so much information at once.

The 5 string as we know it today was first seen in the mid-70s. The first ones that I'm aware of were played by Jimmy Johnson and were built by Alembic.

That's the answer right there.
