Looks normal and for what's its worth I had the same adjustment to go through. It's well worth it though. I won't ever play another bass. These guys make some quality sounding and very roadworthy instruments.

The SR5 that I just got has the G string in that same position. I did notice almost immediately that the G string would slip off the edge of the fingerboard sometimes when I hit notes on that string. I just subconsciously altered my technique & now it's not a problem anymore.

Here's my 2 cents, and my personal solution:

-- Yes, the g is closer to the edge of the fretboard on my SR5 than on any other bass I have. I did have trouble with it slipping off the edge, and it is annoying.

-- That said, my SR5 is such a killer bass that I wanted to find a way to get around the problem

-- So, I put on a set of Med guage strings (.50 g string) and that helped a LOT. Now only happens very occasionally. I also like that I'm getting less string 'clack' from my admittedly percussive fingerstyle attack. So a good solution for me.

-- The well-meaning and good-hearted folks here on the board WILL question your technique if you complain about this...it's their only flaw as far as I can see ;)

--If you're feeling radical, There's also thread on the board from someone who put on a modified nut, with good results for him.
