Here on this forum there have been a couple threads relating to illegal, mass produced, copyright infringing knockoffs, and the legal battles that have ensued between EBMM and the other companies.
Also, many people here get very irate when those knockoffs turn up on ebay, advertised as the real deal.
The people on this forum are such EBMM/MM purists that seeing a handmade "one-off" tribute reminds them of all the aforementioned scandals, so it's hard for them to appreciate it.
We're the kind of people who see a bartolini pickup in a ray, and wince.
We see replacement skull nobs, and a Hipshot, we gag.
The biggest mod. we can stomach here is a Eric Cartman sticker on a pickguard!
So don't get disheartened, your bass looks real nice, this forum is full of real nice EBMM/MM enthusiasts, and the lynch mob isn't on the way....yet.

Scott - I'm diggin it. If it's always gonna be yours and it's clearly marked as a rep and does not pretend to be anything else, I think it's a very flattering tribute to thre designers and builders of this bass.
It also gave you an opportunity to get right into the guts of these great basses - any that can only be a good thing - you now know about a zillion per cent more than me - I just play 'em!
PS - [Some] Folks here (as has been mentioned) are purists.
While I cannot see why a hipshot would make someone gag (I need that explained to me) - or why Status necks are considered the spawn of the devil, especially as EBMM have used them).......'aftermarket chat' is usually frowned upon.
The way I see this situation is that as it's EBMM's site/forum, so they reserve the right to uphold that - that's just the way it is.

Hey Scotti - don't take offense, we're not like other "abrasive" forums around here.
I think that guitar of yours looks amazing. I realise the kind of effort that goes into these, as one of my best mates is a luthier and makes guitars for a living.
I'm usually around his workshop most weekends!
I am also curious about the legal ramifications about making something like this as I was tinkering with the idea of making an AL replica.
You said you made the bridge!! - cool how did you go about that - any photos ?

It looks like a really nice piece. It would be fun to A/B is against a factory model.
You certainly have more patience than I do. I'm having a hard enough time just waiting for my DD to get built. I can't imagine building one myself. I would be in too much of a hurry for it to turn out worth a crap.

Anyone who can work with their hands in building something is a good guy and I fully respect that person...
i personally am glad that you are showing that bass off, it is a work of art (like all quality guitars) and probably will have a lot of sentimental value to you...how does it play?...a guy i know had the neck shaved down on his Stingray so it would be as think as a '75 jazzbass neck but still be as wide as a standard Stingray, a really comfortable neck
Have you done this kind of work before from scratch? The most I can do is repaint, set-up, and wire electronics...I avoid wood work
I'm just curious about the pots in how they dervive the tone they do...I'm always for fun modding electronics in my friend's fender guitars and basses, heck, i even modded my Fender Jaguar with putting a humbucker at the bridge...i'm just fasinated by how all that stuff works and affects the tone of the instrument...i'd never touch my Musicman basses (because they are perfect in my opinion) except for changing old capasitors (maybe), but i still think it is interesting to know why my stingray sounds like it does
by the way...the old hipshot d-tuner i added to my SR4 was the best mod i could possibly do to that bass, haha ...the tuner does say fender though...i don't care but i still have the original tuner if i ever decide to go back to it on the low bass string...

I'm going to be building a pre EB tribute at the end of next year and this one will be very close to the original.
PLEASE NOTE: There will be plenty of information on the bass to denote that it's a replica so as not to be seen as an original!
Here are some shots of the headstock so you can see the wording. Yes it does have the EB logo with reference to the © but it clearly reads REPLICA. It also has my name on the back of the headstock and NO this is not photoshop trickery! If anything disclosing my name and address should show the purists and legals my transparency.

Man, that bass is truly cool. I love the logo too.
