Paul, it is BELOW the original blueburst finish. You cannot put a sticker below the finish without ruining it, I've tried!
My english is not that good, I don't know how to say it, but it looks like it was made with a matallic thing and a hammer, like the serial number on the bridge or like they do to the cows with hot iron (sorry mr Braghrupta). It is deepened into the wood. The height is about 6 inch. It doesn't look at all like a sticker mark, you cannot see a square shape of a sticker, and it is very well made, with every single detail there.

Wow man...that is interesting to say the least.

BP = Big Poppa, owner of EBMM, this forum, our wallets and credit cards. Chick Magnet and likes to see videos of me kicking my butt kicked by my wife....LOL.

Still, that is a cool conversation piece. I am interested in how it got there as well.

In a van, down by the river...
Hi, everybody!

As the only genuine Simpson's character currently on the board (until Mr. Burn's sells that stupid W@rwick), I can tell you the real reason: SLO is actually Springfield, and when Homer is not working at the "Nucleon Plant", he moonlights in the paint department for BP....

That's the post right there, folks. Time to lock this one up for posterity.

And, I'm not just saying that because he's quoted me in his sig. :D

Need any more friends while you're being so generous? :D

Could it be possible that someone may have made a special program for their routing machines and did a little etching??? IT people are deranged enough to do something like that...

I can see only two possibilities if the etching is in the wood.

1) if that's the factory finish, it pretty much had to be done at the factory.

2) if it's been refinished, the artwork could have been added by a previous owner

Get Beth to look up the original finish color by the serial number

Cool avatar! Maybe it has something to do with it? Like a crop circle or something? :p

hello to all! this is my first post on this forum

I'm the proud owner of the Homer stingray5. I "took" it from Florin :D

I must admit that seeing Homer on the back of my bass it was kind of strange. the blue lines are confusing... the wood inlay is quite special. The details are excelent : mouth, tongue, teeth, eyes, 2 pieces of hair :) , the but!!!! also the lines are incredible well done.

I'm very curios about the way Homer arrived on this bass. I really think is made in the factory. I hope It can be somehow confirmed by the producer...:)

hope to hear from you soon!

Adrian
