i don´t use a boosterpedal.
i use my g-major to boost my solovolume.
all my channels are at the same level (the 3 recto and the 2 marshall channels) and i balance the overallsound with the presetlevel of the g-major.
for some solo-presets the level is at "0" db, for the normal rhythm presets it´s set to "-4" or "-5" db output.
with one of the expression pedals of the FCB1010 (behringer midicontroller) i can boost the presetlevels to "0" db if needed.

Does a Boss GEB7 bass EQ work well as a guitar booster?
you could use it, but it would not cover the eq range optimal for guitar, the bass eq is 50hz - 10k and the guitar eq covers 100hz - 6.4k.

I play rhythm with the volume backed off my guitar a touch, then I roll it up to 10 and/or kick in the "boost" on my Fulltone Fulldrive II for soloing... exactly what I choose depends on the song, the level of gain, the required jump in volume, etc... My H20 chorus/delay also boosts the volume a touch when I engage the delay, which is great for those high-gain, '80s, shred-tastic moments... (nothing like having that GLARINGLY WRONG NOTE cut through the mix like a knife through butter and hang in the air above the bar on a wash of delay for SECONDS THAT SEEM LIKE YEARS!! If you're gonna muck it up, muck it up huge, I always say ;) )

I used to use a Boss GE-7 in the loop of my Marshall combo. Worked like a treat. These days I have a seperate patch on my Line 6 Duoverb that is set slightly louder to cut through the mix.

I guess I'm old school. When I sound check, I turn the amp up to lead guitar level, then I back off the volume knob on the guitar to rhythm level. Time to solo, volume knob goes up to 10. When I'm done, turn back down.

Ain't no school like the old school! That's what I've always done as well. :D

I use most of the methods described above:

 Volume Knob
:) Volume Pedal
:p 3rd Channel set louder on Preamp
;) Set Compressor or Distortion Volume Higher
 Glare at Soundman during Solo

So I'm planning on getting a GE-7, I have the money. What do you think? Will it do any good boosting mids and overall volume on a solid-state amp?

on my processor my rythem and lead settings are right next to eachother numericly, so i just hit the button once. my lead setting has a little less distortion, more volume and quite a bit more mids. i also switch to my neck pickup, but thats just my preference

You can set it how you wish. See no reason why this will not work.
