I was reading Boston's "hanging out" thread and it got me thinking. I hang almost all my basses on the wall in my studio, all the cases are in storage. Will this hurt anything?

... probably a stupid question, but hey whay do you expect from me...

I hang mine as well.

I'm thinking about getting one of those tolex
cases that converts into a stand that holds
5-7 basses (to conserve space) .. . but I think
I read that hanging them by the neck is better
for the instrument long term ? ?

Well Psycho I keep all of mine in the cases. They are stored in a closet, since I don't have a dedicated room for them. Up here the temperature changes can be brutal. My feeling is that the cases seem to keep the in tune better. I tend to rotate between different guitar ever 2 to 4 weeks.

Just my thought. Glenn |B)

I've got one in its hardshell case and one in a gig bag. All of my instruments are generally stored in a closet. Sometimes I'll leave a 'Ray on a guitar stand in my office/music room/computer room simply because I was up late playing it & got too lazy to put it away.

Mine are stored in the cases. I don't have enough wall to hang them. Hanging them shouldn't be a cause for worry.

IMHO

All my basses are stored in cases. Mainly as I think it cuts down the chances of an accident occuring which will damage my babies.

I assume if there was a risk of damage, these wouldn't be hanging up...

I always keep mine stored in their cases, and in the closet out of view.

First and obvious, heavens forbid I ever get a break-in, I surely don't want my basses in easy grabs reach. You can't even tell a musician lives in my house.

Secondly, I have vintage basses that have apparently hung before, because they have finish damage and 'stains' from the hangers...I could do without that.

Thirdy, it's ways been known, leaving string intruments out kills strings faster. But I know some folks don't care.

I'm surprised by the number of you who leave them hanging about. I would have assumed you all wiped them down and put them away in the cases for a good nights rest. I already have a spot cleared out under the bed so I can slide my bass, in it's case (<--rhyme) away at the end of the day.

Mine are on hangers, with the cases tucked away in the closet. I may have to rethink the arrangement when my daughter gets a few years older, but for now it works great. I used to keep them in the cases in the closet, but I find I'm more likely to play when they're staring me in the face. Out of sight, out of mind.

And, Paul wins the thread!

I have mine on a 3 bass stand right now, but one of my first projects in the new house is putting up wall hangers now that I'll have a dedicated man-cave.
