went on a 300 mile round trip to test out some Mark Bass gear and I was hoping it would live up to the hype.....

it did, it did, it did

I told the guy in the store I was going to blast it a bit as I wanted to see what it was like turned up,so he set me up in his office (cool guy)

the only thing he had was a 1 x 15 combo,it was great I loved it and I could not believe how loud it was for such a tiny rig.

All i know is the swr gear is going and I am getting me a MB 4x10 (4ohm) and a LMII head.

I also got talking to a great guy in Musicmaker in Dublin who is going to order me in a Bongo for me to try out !!!!!! when I told him i just wanted to try it out before i lay down my money he said no problem,he would just get it in anyway and if i like it buy it if not no worries.

Kewl. In spite of having a very nice Ashdown rig I'm itching to try out some Markbass kit after all the chat here but I'm going to have to do a similar 200+ mile trip to find one. The closest stores to me claim to be resellers but don't have anything in stock, although they can order it. Right.

Anyway, you will not be disappointed with the Bongo. Try the 5, it's fantastic. I suspect if you play a B5 through an MB I'll be able to hear it on *this* side of the Irish Sea... :D

I was playing through GK and Ashdown rigs and I think the Markbass had me sold with one note. Can't wait to add the 104HF to my combo and ditch the rest.

There is truth to this. My Bongo5 has new life. It was great before but the clarity of the Markbass seems to only increase the tonal variety available by blending from the bridge humbucker to the neck SC.:D

Ditto for me - my "local" store is apparently an MB and EBMM stockist, but never have anything in there. And they refuse to let you try things out without laying down a deposit first!

At least now I work in London I'm a shortish walk from Denmark St and can take a trip there when I fancy. Which I've not done yet actually... but I feel your pain!

The Bass Centre near Liverpool St had loads of Markbass in there when I went in as well - great if you want to have a play - just a shame the guys in the shop are such arseholes... still :D

Azzy, strange but I've never visited any of the London stores. I'm not sure I'd spend a load of money and time travelling just to meet a bunch of arseholes though - I'm sure I could find plenty of those locally :)

I bought my first Stingray from Big Discount in Morecombe, who were good incidentally. My Ashdown rig and the SR5 were from Sound Control in Bristol, who have been great and gave me a cool price on each. The Zon was from Jay at NJ Guitar and Bass in the States, a shop were I spent many happy afternoons playing some very beautiful basses. I've bought other stuff from smaller local stores and had good experiences in all of them. Soundsplus in Bury St Edmunds is a favourite because I not only bought stuff but I found my drummer and singer there as wel!! And of course Nick there has a certain luvverly Bongo5 displayed provocatively on the wall...

I like a combination of 15's and 10's - the question is how many 10's. 4 of them and a 15 is a great bowel-mover but I'm wondering if 2 10s isn't sufficient, and a whole lot easier to transport... ;)
