I think that the problem is that you guys tend to blame the importer and they are as frustrated as you are. Dealers are reluctant to get behing "boutique" products. They dont sell themselves. Like the bongo that sat for 2 1/2 years and got sent back.....that is a good model in great colors It should have sold.

We are gaining on the good fight though.

I also understand the comments regarding the new economy. It just isnt there yet.
I think and talk with our customers all of the time about it. There will be a new model of distribution but it will take a willing cooperative efort.
I agree, still makes it hard when all you want is a guitar. I'll be making a trip to the States soon so that will quench my thirst for a EBMM;)

Due to our isolation it can make it hard to get anything at a good price.... ebay is helping this... but you have to trust... which I do not!!!

If I list all the shops on that street (Parramatta Road), will you remember which one it is so you can help these people out?

Music City Sydney
Music 101
Guitar World
Downtown Music
Billy Hyde Music

The Bass Player is also on that street, but I don't think they have guitars in there :p

Gosh . . and there was I thinking the Bass Player was the best bass store in Australia!
It sure was the best store I found on the east coast. They had MM's in there a while ago as well as a prestige brand or two.
What changed?

You forgot Jackson's Rare Guitars. No EBMM content, but a fantastic place to kill a couple of hours.

Guitar World maybe?
it's been a while, when I got to sydney it's to see shows and I'm always rushed, so many good music stores and so many good vegan restraunts!!!

I think it was guitar world, it was very close to Jacksons, like a block or 2 down the road, if your walking away from the uni/city

I'm in syd on sunday for a show, if I have time I'll have a look

Bass players ok for second hand stuff, but that's about it.
Better music and Pro Audio in canberra are VERY good stores

There's really not much we don't stock between us, and Pro audio is also the Importer for Australia of Messa Boogie and Modulas basses (horrible things, very pretty but carbon necks don't float my boat)
the only product we don't do that I wish we had is EBMM guitars

if your looking for cool bass stuff in OZ, check out a little store in sydney called Green Square Music, heaps of amps and cabs you can't get anywere else in oz, they do Thunder**** and Acme stuff.

Green Square do Alembic's as well. I was very keen to check them out before I bought my Warwick, but for some reason, I decided against it til I have the money to afford an Alembic I actually would want. But by the time I have the money for that, I'm sure there would be something better that catches my eye for cheaper :p Alembic's sure as hell aren't cheap. But damn they look good with Cocobolo!

The Bass Player had a 1991 Warwick Streamer Stage 1 in there when I dropped by. If the guy had of accepted $1800 for it, I would of got it. But alas, he would not budge from $2200. I could of afforded it, but I didn't want to spend that much on it. Apart from that, nothing in there jumped out at me. Although they have Eden and Ampeg gear which is nice. I might buy an Eden cabinet when I get around to getting a new amp.

Just my opinions, but for the best selection of basses, go to Music City Sydney, and for the best selection of amps, go to Billy Hyde. However if you want to check out some more . . . unique stuff, go to some of the smaller shops. One of the shops (might of been Downtown Music) had an awesome Thompson bass with kangaroos and frilled neck lizards all over it. It was truly a work of art, although I feel would be best suited in a country band.

Andrew, the other bass player at my shop has some amazing War*icks, 3 of which are up on the War*ick custom shop site, but I like his 5 string vintage sunburst Ray best.

Alembics are stupid expensive, I don't think I could ever buy one, just casue I'd be scared to take it out! unless a John Entwistle came up for cheap, I couldn't resist, it would go on my wall above my bed

Lazybite I have heard good things about acme... patricularly their weight... power hungry but..

yeah a lot of guys are using them, John Farnam's bass player is using 2 2X10's and an Eden head.............but I don't think they could REALLY be that much better then an Eden XST2x10 or an AG GS2X10

2 weeks ago sold a mate an 1975 jazz bass that came with a custom hand carved leather scratch guard with roses and acorns on it, it was NAT with maple neck so with this brown scratch guard looked VERY country

Unless things have changed since I bought my Bongo in Australia 2 years ago, phone CMC direct. Ask them which Bongo models and colour combinations are in the country. Choose the one you want, and they will ensure that the bass you choose will be shipped to the EBMM dealer of your choice. In my case, the HH Rolls Burgundy was a distributor demo that was travelling the country with a sales rep. CMC arranged for Allans in Adelaide to sell it to me.

Ah ha . .saw my first bongo today in Brisbane city store. Maroon colour with black p/g and dark wood neck. H and s/c I guess and 4 strings.
Neck wasn't very attractive wood and painted neck i dunno about. Didn't get a chance to try it out amplified but it did feel light. Just not my sort of bass I guess as look and feel are important to me. They had 2 SR5's and 3 SR4's as well as Bongie so that made a change to see a selection. SR5 still above the rest for me.
