Ya, the latch was actually stuck, I had to force it. Anyways- the bass is incredible. I got it set up, and it did not need too much adjustment. For being over 20 years old the bass barely has any signs of wear, and looks almost brand new. I used the .130 gauge since it is not that long of a neck and I didn't want the B to be flippidy flopidy. So- I am super happy, everyone I show it to loves the red, and the neck is incredible. I don't know why they don't do that finish on the new ones. Here are the pics I promised: 6.15.11 013.jpg 6.15.11 010.jpg 6.15.11 011.jpg 6.15.11 012.jpg 6.15.11 017.jpg

Congrats - very nice looking bass. I think the original matt white pg looks good with this bass - vintage pearloid white may be good though? How does it sound?

Is the finish trans? The picture of the back almost looks like wood grain showing thru! By the way, very nice looking bass!!!!

That ax rates waaaaay up on the eye candy scale !

Congrats on bagging an alnico SR5 ! I was about to
bag a used Big Al SSS when I stumpled into a deal
on an alnico SR5 myself. I expected it to be rather
like an SR4 with an extra string but it's way beyond
that. Tone is downright scary .... and versatile cuz
it's an '09 HS version.

I put a set of ancient D'A Chromes on it [this is the
3rd bass to wear that very set, several yrs old but
infrequently played].

It is translucent. I think it is actually a nitrocellulose finish. Does anyone know if they did nitrocellulose finishes on that era of stingrays?

The bass sounds incredible. I was at GC yesterday and played on a few different SR5's and ST5's. Once again, the only one I thought compared was the newer classic SR5 with the finished neck and alnico pickups. The others are great basses, but not really what I am looking for. Also, mine seems a bit "beefier" than the new ones. I personally like a beefier bass since I am more about tone than speed these days. Also- I think mine is about 1 pound lighter than some of the new ones.

I was thinking about putting a black pickup guard on it. I saw one on craigslist with a black pg and it looked mean. Where is a good place to get one? I can probably just install the pg myself right?

Call EBMM Customer Service. I just bought a white pearl for my SR5 and it was pretty easy to install myself with a phillips screw driver, allen wrench, and nut driver.
