I run them | | |

/ | \ will have greater tension over the same distance, which you don't need with .009s

The only time I've had to angle springs was on my 7 string (not a JP) when I changed gauges to .010s and I had trouble fitting a spring in the outermost position. The easiest way to get it stable was by putting that spring in at an angle.

Hope that helps!

I've always used the / \ configuration. I'd never really thought of the increased tension that it is likely causing. In fact, I think my Axis came with the springs like that....or did I put it like that, I can't remember now.

All I mean by increased tension is that the claw doesn't need to be screwed in towards the body as far. The springs are stretched out a little bit more because they have a greater distance to span.

Nothing wrong with setting them up / \ - I would suggest using them at an angle like that is if you install them straight and there is too little tension on them causing them to keep popping loose when the trem returns to zero. If that makes sense  :D

ha! I think mine is ||||... (it's blocked off and the extra springs are more stable for me - but when I got it it was / \.... ? weird.)
