How to have fun at the music store....

So, I was at Guitar Center today here in Atlanta to check out the EBMM's they had in stock. Here's the setup:

1. BFR JP6
2. Fender Deluxe Reverb - Ultra Clean setting
3. Rip off some country licks


I had more than a few of the employees come by to see how I was doing

Seriously, I'm not a high gain player, but I really like the JP models. I was quite impressed with some of the spank and twang coming out of the JP...it's really a versatile guitar. Add in the piezo and you get even more twang, but I was also able to get a great jazz tone as well out of the neck pickup.

I had a little audience a few weeks ago at a guitar shop, playing a Fender Deluxe Reverb with my MM90 AL- what a bloody GREAT tone, like the two were made for each other, plugged my tele in and the amp sounded average, plug the AL back in- heaven!

I love the middle position clean sounds from the JP, it's probably one of my all time favorite clean guitar sounds actually.

Agreed. I love the middle position on the JP. If only that neck was fatter.

I find my JP is versatile to a point. The tone is great, but I can't get too much beefiness out of it when it is clean because I setup the action so low. With gain it is another story though

I remember trying out a JP a few months ago, I found the cleans to be the exact opposite to what you guys are saying, sterile and thin, but then again how many of you have played an AL and a JP? With my trusty AL it totally wiped the JP for cleans, not even a contest. There has to be context, Ive never heard a dual humbucker axe do cleans to rival a dedicatad single coil guitar, nor would I expect them too.

I think it also depends on the application of the clean channel as well. I agree with you to an extent, but I do think the JP has pretty good cleans for what it is. If you want the pristine 80's type clean with chorus and delay -- the JP will deliver in spades. If you're looking for Timmons-esque type cleans, it'll take a little bit of persuasion from the JP.

i love guitar store Audiences heheh sometimes people are in shock beacause you can play something other than nirvana or ac/dc heheheh love it !!!

I always plug into a Line 6 amp just because it has the tuner on board. If I'm just in for fun and messing around, I play the "wrong" things on the "wrong" guitars. I'll take a nice semi-hollow Jazz guitar and rip off some Van Halen using the settings on the amp to give me the sound I want. Then I switch to a single purpose shreader guitar, put it on full clean in the neck position and finger pick Tears in Heaven. I get bewildered onlookers....not because I'm good, but because I've surprised them. When my 8 year old is with me, he can pull the same bewildered looks. It's not expected that the person pulling off Hell's Bells (I set the tone for him...he he) is a very little cute 8 year old. His Nirvana usually is the best......dark, dark song from a happy little boy.
