Quick question:
How do you make drum tracks with the PC (for example the tracks for the forumites recording project)? Are there special programs/software? Are other things needed than a PC? Any recommendations?
I would prefer a easy and simple solution. I don´t intend to do pretty big things, just for fun.

Thanks a lot !!!!!

@ mods: sorry, I know it´s a non-EBMM topic, but as I know lot of guys are doing such things, I hope to find a simple and quick answer from guys who know what to do.

Fruity Loops is a nice and simple sample... You can edit your beats in the piano roll in your recording software, or have a midi controller to play them out... I'm using Drumkit from Hell (DFH) from Toontrack, their DFH Superior is one of the best ones out there...

Hey banjoplayer,
Another really good solution is to use Acid loops from Sony....they have the professional version which is a little pricey, but they also have have some scaled down versions that come with drum loops to get you started.

Another option might be to check out download.com and see if they have any freeware drum creation programs.

Let me know if you run into any problems....I'll be glad to help you through it.
I'm getting ready to post our second song on the recording project thread!

good luck,
jeff

or get easy drummer from toontrack.. reasonably priced, lots of good grooves included and not killing for your hardware (doesnt eat a gig of ram like bfd tends to do ;))
add a midi keyboard or a drum pad trigger and you make your own grooves in a flash..

Call me old fashioned but I'm using a Dr880 drum machine into a Yamaha Ag16w stand alone unit. I would need a whole new and seperate system just for pc/mac recording.

+1 for the DR-880. Great drum sounds - very realistic. You can also use the built-in bass if you'd like to add a bass line, and even run your guitar through it to record. It has very good amp simulations and effects on board. Your "all-in-one" recording tool!

Guys, on the note of drum tracks, how do you compress and eq them? Coz I can't really get a good sound out of it more often than not...

ok some e.q tips
if they sound bad eq your stereo mix with heaps of highs and lows and pull down about 300k then use a limiter fast attack and long release ratio about 8.1 push the input volume to drive it harder .. it may fix ya drums
cheers
