How to make strings dull - faster?

Hi,

Is there any good working ways to make strings dull - fast?
I'ver heard about using almond-oil on strings - but has anyone tried this or any other method?

I want a Bernard Edwards kind of sound for my SR5 but it takes a long time to wear those strings down!

Any suggestions of strings - Did Bernard use Rotosound?

What about half-round strings - do they have a dull-kind-of sound?

yeah - buy a set of D'adarrio Stainless steel strings - the dullest, crappiest strings I have tried.
