towel scratches

You can take it too far, trying to protect your bass from wear.

A couple of things to bear in mind...

1. Honest finish wear is usually a good sign. People tend to play good basses more... that pristine '60s p bass is most likely pristine because it stayed in the case.

2. It's not as if most of our instruments are collectors' items. Buckle rash doesn't devalue a players' bass that much.

I stopped worrying about dings when I managed to put a dent in a bass while installing straplocks.

I'd love a 'stayed in case for 35 years' bass (of any kind!) - but there aren't any!

I agree comepletely dlloyd. In 2001, I was determined that my lovely brand new car would be lovingly cared for, which it has been. But it's still picked up knocks/scratches - it just cannot be avoided if it's going to be used - just in the same way as basses.
