hey guys, I'm new to the forums, and because this is the MM forum, I'll post my news (which I have posted on TB and the pit as well). Because I still live under my parents' roof, I get presents from them (ha) and all I said I wanted this year, was a ray. They're still thinking about it, but I know that they'll come around to the idea and get me a ray.

As of now, I think I'm gonna go with the HS, but I'm going to be heading over to GC to try out the HH to see how that feels in my hands.

that's what I want right there. I've been told that abalone looks better, but not to me. I also think that this combo isn't used as much, and I think it fits me better.

so, what d'you guys think?

Hey welcome to the forum.

To me, the shell PG complements the maple board while the abalone one complements the body color.

I didn't care about such things until I got married

That's certainly a nice combo! Is that Blue Pearl? I'm fairly sure that mobay has some pictures in the pic gallery of an SR5 w/tort - the finish looks much better in real life than in the EBMM builder.

As for HS vs HH, you're doing the right thing by going and testing them out. If it was me I'd go for HS as some people feel it to be a bit more flexible, but at the end of the day only you can make the decision.

Good parents you've got there too! :)

And of course, once you've got one, you're going to NEED another - so keep some more potential colour combos up your sleeve!

I've got this little honey right here...it's been my "go-to" bass since I got it a few weeks back...just about any tone you could want is easily dialed-in here!

yah, my parents can be ok sometimes.

I also like the rosewood board with that color combo, but bass central has a HH and a HS in stock, both with maple boards, so I had to switch the board color.

However, I haven't gotten a quote from them yet, and Jack gave me what I think was a really good price, so I'm waiting to see what will come up. However, if I order from EB, then I won't get it til xmas, and I want it asap (which for me would be early november).

Yah, that's blue pearl, it was closest to LPB, and I love LPB with tort, so this struck me first.

I do have some other color combos up my sleeve, but this is my favorite right now.

Jack & I have two unique combos on order for School of Bass yet unspoken for that should be done by the end of Spetember:

116 73 21 03 SR 4 HS Tobaccoburst, Rosewood, MHS, Shell Guard

114 74 21 03 SR4 HH Cherryburst, Rosewood, MHS, Shell Guard

I also have two SR4's on the way in this week from the factory in the 2006 Limited Edition Black & Gold. One HS and one single H. Both available to ship by the end of the week. We also have a boatload of 30th Anniversary Ray's available.

New orders would be about Christmas now as you said so if Beaver has what you want in stock then you should jump on them. I think you'll find pricing to be pretty similar between most dealers.

And don't forget what I mentioned to you @ TB. Bass Central doesn't update their page very often so it will behoove you to check on them to make sure that they do have that bass you wanted. MusicMan is not like Fender. They do not make hundreds of basses everyday for dealers to stock. This adds up to a fair amount of lead time for special orders. If BC doesn't have your dream bass come Xmas time, your Kris Kringle may end up being a spring break present because the order will take a few months to fill. Word to the wise: Order now for a Xmas delivery.

FWIW, most of ppl here get their basses from the dealers who hang out here like Jack (Bovinehost), Steve Dude Barr (Steve Dude Barr) and Pete Dubaldo (PeteDubaldo). You can't beat the peace of mind of knowing that you can contact your dealer anytime here.

yah, I emailed Jack frst to get his quote, and was quite happy with it, but I'm just checking all the places I know so I can get the best deal, and don't have to spend the money I'm saving (to build a bass, ha) on it so I can get it this year.

still haven't gotten a reply, but I'll just have to wait and see.

I never would have thought of putting that colour combo together, but Mobay's ex-bass looks awesome! Me likey, I love the fact you can play around with bass/pickguard colour combos to give yourself a whole new look.

too bad you can't get blakc hardware for a ray, cause that would just be plain sweet to have BP, tort, and black hardware...

oh well, I guess I'll just have to suck it up. I do agree though, it looks better in a picture compared to the EB instrument builder.

can't wait...I think I'll just go with the maple board as well, just because I can get it now, compared to xmas.

finally get to pay you back BP.

Anything particular in mind, should you suddenly find yourself in possession of a CAR Sterling?

I just don't know! Tempted to whack an abalone guard on it, so it'd be like Mobay's in reverse - can be kinda claret and blue - for the only proper team to wear those colours in the EPL! ;) But being from Birmingham you wouldn't know about that :D

You're right, I wouldn't have a clue. Born in North Yorkshire, rasied in Toronto, Canada, now living in Birmingham, and an occasional Man City supporter. I'm totally messed up!

That's a good answer :D

Man City are my second team - working for Thomas Cook I feel a vague alleigance to them... :)
