This is my first post here and I haven't had much luck in finding any info elsewhere.

I was curious about the Silhouette Special. I already have a Petrucci, but would like a second electric and have heard a lot of good things about the SS.

My question is "what is the difference between an HSS or SSS"? I'm trying the "build an instrument" option on the website, and don't know what either one of those mean.

SSS = single coil pickups in all three positions....
Hss = Humbucker in the bridge and single coils in the other two positions (neck and middle)

A 'bucker in the bridge sounds way beefy, but the singles have merit as well (straty tones but a little thinner in some cases, outside of MM's the singles usually buzz w/ 60 cycle hum but the MM Silent Circuit keeps the SS quiet).

Hope that helps...

First off, welcome to the addiction and to the forum!! There is a bunch of peeps on here more than willing to help you out. One is obviously OC. Another Silo player is Norm I believe.

I personally have JP's, and that is not a bad thing. BTW, post a pic of your axe...it is almost mandatory here...hehehehe

Thanks everybody for the response. I'm not used to people paying attention that well. I think I'll like it here.

Orange Channel: Thanks for the distinction between the SSS and HSS...that does help.

Koogie2K and Warg Master: Believe it or don't I haven't even taken a picture of my JP yet. Does staring at it for long periods of time help? Seriously, I'll see if I can get my roommates digital and see if I can post it for you. I'm actually going to change out my current JP for another...moving from pearl redburst to just straight black (+ piezo and matching headstock).

Check ya'll later...and koogie, I agree about the jalapenos. I have recent first hand experience with that.

heheheeh....so, getting rid of the PRB for black? Not bad. I have the PRD, Mystic Dream and my fav...JP-7 in Blue Dawn w/piezo. OC has the PRB and MD and Desert Gold. Nice set of guitars.

Staring at it for long periods of time is not a bad thing as long as it is in your hands....lol

You will definitely like it here. All the peeps are really cool and helpful. We kinda police our own here. Of course, our mods keep us in line for the most part...(they do have to earn their keep I guess...lol).

Simply put, the best guitar forum out there! You will even get help from the EB staff as well. They don't hide from us and are more than willing to help if we can't.

Yeah, I am going through this "back to basics" thing on looks. If I get a Silhouette I'd probably go vintage sunburst, so I guess I've got that whole theme going.

I'm jealous of all those guitars. That Blue Dawn is awesome looking I bet. I've seen some of those in the past and just drooled.

Oh, by the way, yes, the guitar is usually in my hands when I look at it. Sometimes I do give it the occasional "open the case and stare thing", just reminding myself that I own the thing. But, that will last about 3 months until my new one comes in.

Thanks for the welcome. I usually don't post anywhere, but this seems like a place that it would be worthwhile. Take it easy.
