I've tended to use them with clean sounds, but haven't noticed too much noise. You are paying top dollar for this kit s I expect them to use a decent signal path and componentry.

I really like the Diamond Compressor from subtle to squeezed it sounds great and built like a Tank. The Empress is very good as well...

I've been looking too! General consensus seems to be Diamond, Xotic or Keeley.

I have a Monte Allums Modded Boss, which is great for cleans, but it's still just colours things a bit too much and it gross with distortion haha.

Let us know how you go.

I've got an MXR Custom Comp, and its great. Really nice, neat and balanced pedal. In fact, anything by MXR is generally pretty freaking good.

I ended up with the wampler ego - handles high gain well. I got rid of it when I went to the axe fx, but now I'm back to pedal boardin', so I'm keeping my eye out for another.

Oh I am so happy I found this thread....I am new to compressors, so please bear with me. If possible I would like to expand this thread. First off do I need a compressor? I am in a metal cover band, playing primarily classic hits of the 80's-90's. I have a few issues that need to be addressed and I am hoping the answer is compression, or lack thereof. First challenge is squeezing sustain and volume from high notes during solos. Second is while playing rhythm, the lows are pronounced but I can barely here the high notes on some chords (the chorus during Some Heads Are Gonna Roll ending on the D), finally of course is balancing out the volume during clean tones, mostly rhythm of course. A quick note about my set up, I run tuner-wah-decimator –preamp, and for lead, I run everything through the effects loop-delay-paraeq, all activated via footswitch. So basically my question is do I need compression, where is the best place on my board and do I need more than one. Thanks!
