Hurrah! And we need your help...

Hi Guys

We finally have the internet at home again, so you lovely people get to be graced with my presence 24/7 again I've got lots to catch up on it seems, including Chuck burning his bra... (hmm haven't read that yet!) and all the other wonderful things that you lot have been up to.

However we need your help with hanging our guitars. I bought some Hercules wall hangers from DaveB, and I'm not sure whether we can use the included fixings. Our new flat is timber framed, and I'm don't know what the gap is between the timber and the brick. Can we drill straight into the plasterboard, or do we need to buy some longer screws and try and get to the brick?

I'm sure that you all can understand why we want to get these done right - I can't imagine the thought of our Balls crashing down because we've not hung them properly (hmm, I think I might want to rephrase that sentence!)

Hi Azzy, do not try and screw through to the brickwork on a dry lined wall like yours. You'll bend and crack the plasterboard when you tighten the screws down. I'm involved with the fitted furniture industry and what you need are proper cavity fixings, they are available from B & Q, Wickes, Homebase etc. We use these all the time to hang kitchen cupboards and the like.

Another option is to use a stud finder to locate the timber bearers, then attach a sturdy piece of timber to the bearers horizontally, and then attach the guitar hangers to that piece of timber. Similar concept to an old style coat rack mounted to the wall, with hooks spaced across the length of the timber.

YUP he is right on the money there go find yourself a stud,the other fixings are great and might take the weight but if you screw straight into a stud it will never fall down.

screw into a stud so your balls dont fall down.......there has to be a song in there

Actually you have to be careful, studs are not always timber here. Its quite common on new build to have steel/aluminium uprights in which case the 40mm cavity fixings I recommended are the only option.

^^Good point that, I've seen a few new builds with aluminium uprights instead of wooden battens.
