Hey all. My first post here. I oreder a JP fully loaded back in November and can't wait for it to get here (manchester UK). Due a week tomorrow by my reckoning. However, Just wanted to say thanks to Kevin at ernieball. Boy oh boy do I feel like a valued customer. Here's why:
Hi
I'm just writing with a query really. I Ordered a John Petrucci model
a couple of months ago. A 6 string version with the piezo bridge and with
the Mystic Dream finish. I am really looking forward to it's arrival here in Manchester UK. However, I have this nagging doubt at the back of my mind so I thought id email you for reassurance.
I Bought an N4 from Washburn when I was 16 back in '93. I paid just over
1000 for it. Of course, being young and inexperianced with big purchases
like this I was really happy with it, to begin with anyway. I still have it
as my main guitar but the problem is this. Even though it has always
played well enough it has never felt like a top line instrument. There has always
been an inherant problem with the floyd rose patented trem. I did read an interview with Nuno a couple of years later in which he declared, to my
lasting dismay, that "the models commercially available are nothing like the
ones he plays." Of course i took this as meaning they are in fact inferior.
He went on to say that "I fought long and hard to get the quality up to
standard." He also pointed out that Eddie Vah Halen said much the same.
Or it might have been Steve Vai. The interview was a long time ago now.

So I'm basically looking for assurance that the model I am purchasing
(it is quite alot of money) from you is in every way the model that John
Petrucci Plays. I mean as far as the sound, materials and playability are concerned, I'm not going to be disapointed.
Many thanks for your time
I can't wait to see it
Phil.
To which i got this response:

Dear Phil,

Thank you for contacting Ernie Ball/Music Man, and welcome to the
Music Man family. Please be assured that the Signature JP you will be
receiving will be set-up exactly to John's spec's. It will play, feel and
sound just as good as the guitar that John plays on stage and in the
studio. One of the things that we(Music Man) pride ourselves on is the
quality of EVERY instrument that comes off the line. In fact when our
signature artists do clinics they don't even take one of their guitars
with them, because they know that they can grab one off of the shelf of
the store their in and it is going to play just as well as their #1
guitar. The attention to detail here in the factory is second to none. I
have no doubt that you will be thoroughly please with your JP. Keep my
e-mail on hand in case you have any other questions and feel free to
e-mail me anytime.

Most Sincerely,

And I don't even have my guitar yet! Ahhh, what it is to be loved!

I'd agree. It's not very likely you'll be disappointed, they're fantastic guitars. I'm sure everyone here will agree with me.

As the owner of an EBMM Petrucci guitar, myself.. let me tell you that nothing compares to it. It's a great guitar in every way and the quality is too good for words.

Yea I simply can not wait 1 minute longer. I spend my afternoons before teaching sat here with my N4 (she'll always be there) lusting over pics of JP's. I remember my N4 arriving at the store and how excited I was. I was only 16. However, get this! When it arrived at the store the neck was so out of alignment that the 1st string wasn't on the fretboard! I mean, how could any QC guy or whoever let a guitar out of a factory like that?!? It got sent back, but even so! But, I have been totally reassured. I mean, not just the email from Kevin, but what everybody is saying, not just specifically about the JP's but about the company in general. I have always been attracted to MM's since I saw ermmmmm, whats his face............oh yea, Robbie MacIntosh playing a white silhouette on a wings concert i taped way back when. Then when John Petrucci signed up I remember just knowing it would be fab before I saw it. The first time I saw it was watching Dream Theater in Manchester on the Metropolis tour back in 2000. Its pretty cool thinking I got to see the prototype in the flesh so to speak.

+1 on what everyone said.

Btw, I have an N4 and love it. But yeah, Nuno has a better Floyd and pickups. Nuno uses an actual Bill Lawrence in the bridge, whereas Washburn cheeses out and uses the crappy sounding fakes. I do love my N4 though (upgraded to better pickups and I don't use the Floyd much) - it's a great feeling guitar.

All of this underscores a huge point- buy a signature model guitar from most companies and you don't get what the artists are playing. Buy a signature model from EBMM and you get EXACTLY what they're playing, down to the pickup height settings and string gauges. No custom shop required, you get a perfect guitar off the rack.

You can't beat EBMM for quality, service and price. I can't believe it took me so many years to buy one.

Hay mate, welcome on board;). I was at the same DT tour but caught them in Glasgow. Stunning.

You have made a great choice with the EBMM Pet. I have an EVH and an AXIS SS and love them to bits.

Give it time and you will be selling your N4 for an axis!!!!!!!!!! 1 is just not enough (aint that right FOGGY!!!!!!:))

Stick around here and chat with the boys....it is a v cool place to be.

All the best with the PET,

Jonny (now in Dubai)

Hmmmm. Id have to say no. You're talking to a guy that hesitated on throwing out a matress. Yes, I am the sentimental. I couldn't ever sell my N4. She has survived being knocked over by my cat and being thrown at me by my ex girlfriend. I couldn't get rid of it. Besides, the body is a mess. its covered in all sorts. Including where Ben Byrne (starsailors drummer) scratched his name into it when we were at college together. I know it wont get as much playing time once my JP is here but come on, I couldnt sell a guitar I've known and loved almost half my life.

Just had a thought. Is there anyway of tracking where my JP might be? Since I ordered it in mid November. Or am I being too impatient? Ya can't blame me though!
