I played that exact same music to some of that exact same crowd last night. We had baby strollers to seniors in the crowd. Great Stax/Motown tunes are truly transcendent.

That's what I think a lot about when I hear some of the newer music today. Sure it's fun now, but it's no Dark Side of the Moon or Electric Ladyland.

A lot of today's recording artists sound the same; very cookie-cutter. There is no mistaking how different the classic artists sounded from each other, especially the lead vocal. There was no mistaking Robert Plant for Freddie Mercury! All the recording artists from years ago had their own distinct sound and were easily and immediately indentifiable. You could even recognize them by their instruments sometimes...John Bonham's drum sound, for instance.

There are some stand-out recording artists today but back-in-the-day everybody stood out!

It's a sad state of affairs.

Back in the day, it was all about the music. With the introduction of music videos, the music changed. Today, how a musician looks is equally as important as how they sound, maybe even more so. My daughter just went to her first "famous" artist concert. When questioned how it was she said, "He lip-synced some of it, but it was great." Seriously?
