So, I had a great gig on Saturday night. The HHp fretted Bongo killed as always.

The big difference this time was that I had taken off the D'Addario Chromes that have lived on there for the last 8-ish months and replaced them with Slinkys on Friday.

Whoa....the bass was killin'. After a little setup, the action was perfect, the intonation was perfect, and the playing was passable.

I'm sure the new rig didn't hurt, but the Bongo just felt like it was happy.

This Bongo will probably wear rounds until my DD shows up.

2 1/2 years out, and I'm still amazed by this Bongo.

I don't know if you're supposed to do this, but I needed a set of strings for this... other, well... not exactly a MM, ah, well... oh hell, a P-bass. Since I have a good supply of regular Slinky's I put a set on it, and they sound killer!

But, this was a waste of a good set of strings 'cause all I play is a Sterling or a Bongo.

The other half tried supers on his non EBMM guitar the other day and he's in love with them now! He doesn't think he'll ever use another string. You know what I said to that?

That's pretty much a standard guage for production basses, but you have to ask just in case. Musicman basses are not your standard basses, they are a cut above the rest............

+1 for the Super Slinkys. I was amazed at the difference in tone when I swapped out the strings on the used 4HH Bongo I recently acquired (had some other brand string with red silk on the ends). It went from dull thuds to flipping amazingly agressive growl. It put a huge smile in my face . Now the sapphire black is getting the most play time. That is, until I change the strings on the 5ers.

I haven't wanted to replace the Slinky's that came on my SR5 or my Bongo H. They sound just right to me. I tried some Blue Steels on my Bongo HH, but decided I like Slinky's better.

Jason, your fretted Bongo is nice, but your fretless Bongo has stunning looks and sounds incredible too. Man, that Wizzy, along with the iAmp sounded great at my house. Just an incredible sound from such a small package. Is it enough volume onstage? I really need more volume myself (my trio plays a bit loud). I'm planning to trade the Aggie 2x10 cab in for a 2x12.

Must be something in the air... I had exactly the same experience - "I don't remember them sounding this good before" just last week.

I was bored and swapped my Chromes for a set of Slinkys on my Sterling and I was so pleasantly surprised. It was driven by my "wanna-be slapper alter ego".

They do sound nice - was missing that "zing" - Thinking I just might leave 'em on for practice this weekend and for my gig next weekend...
