I use my LMII with a Berg EX112 / HT115 stack mostly, but it also sounds great through an Epi UL-115 / Ernie Ball HD212 stack.

For lower volume or practice I just take the EX112 and it sounds terrific all by itself.

:I've been using a Trace for close to 15 years and love the pre-shape. Anyone ever compare the MBII with a Trace smx?

No, I haven't, but considering that:

1.) MarkBass heads sound very linear and are extremely powerful
2.) Trace Elliots, esp. with the pre-shape, totally alter the bass' sound

my guess is that they sound very different.
You still can dial in a pre-shape with the MB heads, and you can dial in the "vintage speaker" treble roll off, so you can get pretty close to a lot of different amp/cab combinations.

From what I've heard so far, I'd say the MarkBass are very similar to MusicMan Instruments: Sound great out of the box with flat EQ, and can be tweaked to many different good sounds with ease, because the EQ works at the proper points.

Question: Why is everybody getting the LMII and not the F1? AFAICS, they are the same from the specs, but the F1 uses just 1 space in the rack...

Well, its $250 more and while its half as tall, it still has the same footprint and weighs not that much less. Plus, alot of us who use the small MB heads, aren't putting them in racks. Also, the two heads don't sound exactly the same because they use different tech, so some may prefer the sound of the LMKII which is said to be slightly warmer sounding.

Thanks! I see. That are interesting aspects.
I was looking to replace the SWR GrandPrix Preamp and Stereo 800 Poweramp combination (3 rack spaces, weight around 15 kg) with a smaller, more lightweight amp, to put into a 2 space rack, without any compromies tonewise. The F1 completely matches that requirements. I can't imagine not to put an amp which I use for live gigs in a sturdy rack... also, I want my SansAmp RBI to be there... for the warmth ;)

Stanky, hope you love the LMKII as much as I have. I have actually sold several of my other rigs in favor of this one. Plus it is such a treat to not kill my back each time I load it!
