I have owned/played more basses that I care to talk about. There is only one that I keep coming back to and at this point, I've stopped looking. My Bongo HH is the best bass I've ever owned or played.

This bass is a bit special because it was a Christmas gift from my wife. Beyond that, this bass is perfect for me and has totally ruined me for everything else.

* String spacing -- comfy and fast at 17.5 MM
* Pickups -- all kinds of tonal options.
* Preamp -- powerful and flexible.
* Form Factor -- the neck and the 24 frets are just right.

I've been looking at another bass as a backup but nothing has really spoken to me. If I do get that backup, it will probably be another Bongo!

This thing is the truth!

I know exactly what you're talking about.

I try every now and then to play something else.

It just doesn't work anymore.

I have a Bongo being delivered next week. Just bought another one. This one is coming from Musicman Nut. I cannot wait. :D

So what are you getting next? H or HS? Or are you planning to go hog-wild and get something with piezos?
Well, I'm thinking perhaps a single H with piezos -- THAT would be different enough to be different from what I have. Trouble is, (in the interest of managing my budget and keeping my happy home) those are hard to find at retail and even harder to find used.

But then again, Christmas is right around the corner. Hmmmm

Definitely know what you're feeling, I have a wall full of rickenbackers hanging on it and they get looked at a lot but not played very often. The Stealth was my first Bongo too, it's a great finish on the Bongo shape. Definitely try a single H w/piezo, many around here swear it's the "secret weapon" and the piezo option gives you the 4 way tone controls that you're used to. Eventually you'll probably get an HS too. This combo seems to get mixed reviews here but I like it because the single coil enhances the mids and will give a rick-like tone with rounds.

I like the HS configuration, too. Truly I do. I couldn't wrap my brain around it at first (too many years playing single H EBMMs, maybe?) but now it's one of my favorites.

It makes it easy for me to add some deep, blooming lows without changing the EQ or messing around with anything but the blend knob. Sweet and easy. I can be chuggin' along, getting that mean nothing-but-bridge snarl and then - one little tweak and - oh, yeah, baby, get that P bass outta my face.

This makes me very happy that I have one on order! I can't imagine my SR5 not being my "#1" but the Bongo is gonna give it a run for its money!

Luckily, it's not "either/or" as I spent a beautiful few hours communing with my SR5 two nights ago.

And you have a trans orange SR5? Get out. That rocks.

I would eventually like to get a second bass to keep in a different tuning and maybe *gulp* have an extra string. But I am guessing the Sterling has the smallest neck? But after owning 10 different EBs I gotta say that wants you go Bongo its hard to go back. I am definitely interested in the 25th when it goes to a production model. *crossing fingers* for a solid color or tobacco burst option.

I would say try a single H model, with piezos if you can. There is something about the H which is just awesome...I'm not experienced in piezo bridges but can imaginge they add another dimension to the sound altogether.

I have an HS and love it so, so much.
