Beej, I was looking through some of your gear pics and I gotta ask you....what are you doing with that disassembled Suhr backplate ??????????

Hehe ... yeah, I wanted to see what was in there. I had planned to take it apart and route my AL pickguard for it. However there's not enough room to get it in there and the coil is rigid so I can't bend it to fit where I want it. I might see if I can make a coil with the same properties that does fit.

It's pretty cool actually. It's more of a low inductance loop antenna than a dummy coil, and works really well. Now I just have to find a good way to retrofit a coil that size in one of my MM's

Actually, what happened was that I came into a few unused Axis necks (including a Rosewood!). I'm going to use one or two for projects and I'll probably sell the others. (The Luke got the one with the black headstock.) I try and grab parts when they're available.

I still have a hard time with the Luke neck, it's just too small for me. It's fun to play though. I'm generally pretty comfortable with the MM neck contours (except the Petrucci, which just doesn't fit me)- but the Morse, Axis and AL are definitely tops. I kept thinking, if I found a SSS Axis Sport at a good price I'd snap it up and pimp it. But the Axis neck on the Luke might just do it

Thats pretty cool! I always wondered if that was possible and now you have answered my question. I always liked the Luke II body and sound but as much as hard as I tried, I couldn't get used to the V neck. Great idea!

Think there is any chance I could get a replacement neck for my Axis, with a Radiance Red head stock and possibly 2 extra frets. If so, I'll be introducing the J PAxis very soon.

The thing is, the Axis neck is narrower at the heel than most of the other MM necks. But the Luke happens to be the same size, so they fit perfectly. In any other guitar there would be a gap in the neck pocket. (Though you could make a wooden shim for the gap.)
