Last night my band decided to play a song that I really needed to be detuned for so I decided to pull out my old beginner's Yamaha that I used before I got my SR5 for the one song and use the SR5 for everything else. It had been a few weeks since I had played before my SR5 came so the memory of the Yamaha wasn't very fresh when I made the switch.

Any doubts I ever had about the difference in the quality of the sound between old and new are so far gone now that I don't know if I'll really be able to play the Yamaha again!:D While it's easy to get a nice full, powerful sound out of my SR5, the Yamaha sounded thin and muddy in comparison.

I've loved the SR5 since day 1, but I always wondered in the back of my mind if I wasn't good enough yet for it to really make a difference when I played. After last night I know, even in my just-past-beginner (tm) hands, this bass is a huge step forward in every way.

Angry Johnny....Welcome to the Addiction!

Now, you have to replace the Yamaha with another EBMM.....I mean, really, you need another for the de-tuned song you play....make sense?!?!? hahahhhaahaa

I know the feeling.

My band is based an hour away, and generally my equipment lives at the practice space. But you just have to have something to noodle around with when you're not with the band, and before I got Da Bongo I picked up a super-cheap-but-playable 5 string SX J bass, courtesy Rondo Music, for this purpose.

It was never meant to be something that sounds good, just an instrument to practice with.

But Da Bongo has me SO spoiled that I just can't stand it any more. I've taken to lugging Da Bongo back and forth rather than have to play the SX.

I find basses like that are really good to practice on... because once you move to a bass like an MM it feels absolutely magic... and you never take your MM for granted either...
