You bought a Goldtop EVH from Hollowood?

Very interesting.

Back in...I'm thinking it was 1993 ...I was on the hunt for my first EBMM EVH.

I really wanted a green one...and by then they had stopped making green & they were hard to get.

One of the guys working at Hollowood told me that he knew where he could get me a green one. There was a lot of back & forth about whether or not he could get it & about price & whatnot. Eventually I just decided that I would like a red one (since I really had no luck getting the green at the time...but I did luck into one just a couple of years later)

Well...it took a while for them to get a red one...I wanted it now & eventually ended up buying the red one over the phone from Thoroughbred Music.

But at the time...they had the Goldtop & I remember that it hung on the wall for what seemed like a very long time. The EVH's usually were pre-sold before they arrived or sold as soon as they hit the sales floor. I remember them telling me that no one seemed to want the Goldtop...everyone wanted the nice quilted tops.

I played that Goldtop a few times...but I wanted a quilt top too....so I passed on it.

I have been kicking myself for that for years.

I can still picture it hanging on the wall. It was when Hollowood had just had the fire & they were in that temporary location just up the street.

Damn. What could have been.

Of course my red one and I went on to have one hell of a history together that continues to this day. I wouldn't trade that guitar for anything...and I know for sure it was meant to be with me. (I will have to post a story thread about it.)

wow!!!!!!!!!!!! i live 90 miles north of that store. and when i went in all they had was that gold one and the puple one without a trem.i actually didnt like the gold color but had to have that trem.i actually have a clone axis made from jet city guitars in seattle its copied down to the neck. i believe he used a duplicator router with cnc.so im fortunate to have it. i dont think he will make them anymore.but hollowood also had a tel green one that my neighbor bought and still has! i play it for him a couple times amonth since he bought that for his first guitar and never really learned so he keeps in case. still has same strings like new.

Now that you mention it...I might recall seeing a purple hardtail. Its been a long time though.

Your neighbor has the green one? Who knows...that may be the one I was in discussions about.

Thats a terrible story dude, i'm sorry about the Gold EVH! I've made lots of bad mistakes with guitars, none with my EVH's
though. Love them too much.

Yeah, I had a green EVH and I miss it. I sold it to Islandboy, so I know it is in good hands (although he may have sold it since then). :) It was a stellar guitar.

ouch yeah that would hurt Perf! Yeah I sold one of my first "real" guitars to a local guitar shop many years ago. It was a black Kramer Barretta American with the banana headstock and one offset EMG in the Bridge. I replaced the neck with a new one and still have to old neck. Long story short I saw it for sale at the same shop 20 years later (last year) and could not pull the trigger on it. It had more wear too of course but should have picked it up for sentimental purposes. oh well. I love all my EBMM's now so I don't think about it too much!

what sticks out to me the most is a big thing. a les paul a strat and a tele have the 3 most recgnized shapes forever and not much inbetween. but when that evh came out it was different! and with all those trans colors and my sparkle gold top that guitar will go down into classic desighn history. i i felt that way back in 91 and 92 now all these years later it means more to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! anybody have blueprints for a time machine?

If I could go back 20 years the last two colors I would ever pick on an EVH would be Solid Gold and Solid Black! I honestly feel if you take away what you know now and throw out monetary value it is still a no brainer to go with one of those killer Trans Colors. I am not being a fan boi but most of those swimming pool 3D quilt tops were some of the best ever put on any guitar! Throw 11 teenagers in there with the original 11 finishes who are clueless to the guitar and Gold and Black would be the last two colors picked.

Don't we all wish we could go back and make changes?

It's OK. At least you are still alive today to talk about it. Other guitars will come around.

Well said Mike ... could not agree more. Even as an EVH collector, those two have ZERO appeal to me. There is a reason that they did not sell !! The Trans Colors are Killer !!

I remember back in the early 90's there was a music shop in Kingston, Surrey who had a solid black EVH in the window for what seemed like ages. It did not appeal so much at the time, as I wanted an amber one like Eddie. Wish I had have bought it now!
