I've had lot's of eperiences with anti-bass morons

Most recently, I was introduced to the lady who books a lot of origional acts around town by a friend who was headlining a show for her.

"Ursula, this is my friend adrian, he plays bass in a cover band" my friend politely said
*condesending look, sarcastic laugh* "You're not a real musician y'know!"
"No but I do play for 300-500 people every week, and have an awesome time dong it!"

Apparently I found out later she hates bass players in coverbands, "they're hacks!"

I was impressed, usually it's just because I'm in a coverband, but she hated that I played BASS in a coverband.

(she was also hideously unattractive haha)

Anyone that takes the piss out of bass and calls it useless and means it is stupid. No other word for it. My mates mess me about sometimes about it but i know they're joking, but if someone doesn't see the point in bass... then they're just stone cold stupid, sorry to say it. (i apologise in advance if i have inadvertently called anyone you guys are friend with/relatives of stupid, i just find it incredibly ignorant, and to me the line between ignorance and stupidity is VERY fine.)

back to the classics

Hey Zak,
don't let yourself be thrown off by ignorance ... hear the caling you're getting to cheerfully and patiently helping her learn ... sumthing I realized years ago in a very technical automotive documentation training program that I worked in for several years (I was considered an authority in my field, And, I was well qualified and pretty good, but still human and subject to human error:confused::rolleyes::), once I was sent out to retrain a guy I had already worked with but who was still having sum problems ... and what I came to realize was that I was not there to "Teach" him, as much as I was there to "help him LEARN":), if you get my drift:)I became a better "Trainer" by working with that fellow... It was really my perspective and attitude that needed adjustment;):)
on another level, I've always be encouraged by sumthing I read once that has been attributed to PLATO ... "a wise man speaks because he has something to say, a fool, because he has to say something "...:)so, if you have the opportunity, forgive the poor lass for an offhand remark, and help her learn the facts of Bass, as we know them, she'll thank you forever:)
All The Bass,
/PL:)

I spoke to someone at school the other day, with a bandmate. We were asked about what music we play and the usual. Then they asked me why my guitar was bigger and only had 4 strings. I said 'because it's a bass'.
This girl replied, 'do you play solos?' I said 'I usually leave that to Kenny (guitarist), and I maybe do a solo every now and again'.

SHE replied 'Thats okay because I hate bass anyway'.

Wait one second there...you HATE bass? How can you say you HATE an instrument? especially one that is fundamental in pretty much all popular music, rock, funk, disco, hiphop, everything. Does the music she listens to not have any bass? Does she turn the bass all the way down? I can't say I hate any instrument.

'is the handle supposed to look like it has been eaten by moths?' - her comment about my birdseye maple neck.

and THEN she said 'are bass players allowed to sing aswell?'

It makes me sick, and I'm sorry for ranting...but I'm sure you guys have had similar experiences.

was she hot? in N.Y. 17 years of age is legal. :)

I guess the scary part to me is if she “hates” bass what does like? In my life long quest as a musician I’ve come to realize that there are only four basic components of sound.

High frequencies
Low frequencies
High volume
Low volume

That’s all there is, the rhythmic component is the controlling factor of those four basic sonic states that turns it into music or speech or a tree falling in the woods.

She’s left with just three, so I guess her little world is a sonic nightmare of high pitch noise going loud and soft.

She must be a piccolo player…

I think its funny how she called the neck 'the handle'.

And I would have smacked her, but that is bad for my ASBO (anti social behaviour order).

Na, I'm a good citizen.

There comes a time when you gotta ask yourself "what would Nikki Sixx do?" and do it...
