enrolled in College...again!! Since the economy is such a downer right now, I thought I would use the down time to my advantage. After 17 years on 'summer vacation', I enrolled back into college to get some more brain lernin'. I already have a bachelor's degree, but now I'm going back to work on an Audio Production certificate. I may go for the Film Crew certificate as well, seeing as how New Mexico is a hot bed for the film industry. I'd love to inch my way into that industry somehow and hopefully some internships down the road might help that out.

So, it feels weird to think that I'll be back in classes in about two weeks after such a long hiatus. Did any of you guys go back to school after a long time away? Wish me luck!

Awesome!! I did the same thing several times. Well worth it every time. I think everytime I graduated was at the high peak of companies hiring. I was very lucky.

Good for you radrock. I actually did go back to school after a long time too. My previous career was in quality control at Intel. Ok for some, but I needed something to satisfy my artistic needs. Joined the ASU Graphic Design program and I am sooooo glad I did. It was something I really wanted which made all the difference in the world. Luckily I have a supportive Wife that helped me through the non-working years. Now, She is going back for her Ph.D. so that's gonna be a long haul, but I support her as well. You're never too old to learn, and it sounds like there is great opportunity with all the studios there.

Best of luck and kick some arse!

I'm three classes away from an Associate degree in IT. Last time I touched a school book prior was about 20 years ago. I didn't do so well then and am determined to redeem myself in some small way. My biggest complaint about the process is that it has taken over my life to a greater extent than I expected. I only take two classes at a time lest I get overwhelmed because I also work full time, thankfully I had many transfer credits to help shorten the duration of the program. I have just enough extra time to get the Axis out and play in my band as often as possible. :)

Yep, am there, got the T-shirt!

Currently in my final year of a Bachelors in Engineering, five months to go so knuckling down to it (when not posting inane comments on the interweb). I've been offered a chance for a PHD, but really need to get back to working, as I'm running out of cash (buy my guitar!!!).

Like you, it's been about 18 years since I left school, so I'm feeling very old and out of touch, but am trying my best to be 'down with the kids'.

I didn't go to college after high school, I waited until I was 25 and started going part-time, it took me 10 years that way... I graduated in 1997 with a bachelors in Information Technology. 15 years later I decided to go back... I'm 3 classes away from completing my masters degree in cybersecurity, I'll graduate in November...

Hats off to you guys well done. I'm too long in the tooth now to make that kind of change and am resigned to retiring in 5 years time - then I may allocate more time to some of my other interests.

Great stories guys! Good for y'all.

I did them in quick succession, Bachelors then Masters. Was thinking about a Ph.D. but then life got in the way. If I hit the lottery I'll be signing up for a music degree the same day.

I've been in college straight for 8.5 years (Bachelor's degree, and about three months away from receiving my Ph.D.), but I know a guy who took 16 years to get his Bachelor's degree in Geology and then completed a Master's in Soil Chemistry in two years. As long as the commitment is there I think people can do anything they set their mind to!

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. I'm trying to find a t-shirt that reads "Be cool, stay in school" with Garfield sporting a sideways ball cap and giving the hang ten sign. I think when the students see me in that, I'll fit right in.

I've been struggling to finish up my bachelors in engineering due to working a demanding and highly stressful full time job. I'm 26 and really want to get moving along, so I decided to leave my job and focus on the degree. It's quite hard and even more uncertainty at this point, but sometimes you have to take a chance and make a drastic change to actually change something. The scariest thing is that time flys by faster the older you get as I have ovserved myself even if I am not that old yet.

That's awesome. I too have taken time off of school and hopefully soon will be able to enroll again and get things moving in a new direction. Best of luck to you and everyone else who is working on furthering their education

you're a brave man sir, I salute you - I had to sit an ITIL course which was 3 days about 2 years ago which was more than enough for me - I'd love to better my education I just don't have the motivation (or spare time due to the family) good for you
