My understanding is that, back then, some new finishes would come out under "special" until it was decided to continue to offer that finish or not.

Trans White "Mary Kaye" commenced c. 1990 but was not officially designated "Trans White" until c. Apl 1993. So, I presume all Trans White Basses up to that point would have been "special" finishes.

I think it was discontinued 1994.

P.S. My Trans White is 1994.

I thought it was kind of a silly girly color until I saw one in person at 30th st guitars in NYC. Wow those are some classy cool looking basses. Still kicking myself for not snagging that pale 2band eq beaut.

oh and btw you have too many early 90's rays. I would be more than happy to serve as foster home for any of those poor neglected wayward souls.

yea i really love the feel and vibe of the old late 80s very early 90s when they had the lacquered necks, they just have that broken in feel to them.and of course the figured necks are real nice too,

My Trans white is from 92. The "special" is the trans white color. It's the most beautiful SR I own.

Just back from EBMM from a complete over haul this summer. New pickup, preamp and mutes. Sings like a bird now.

I bought it on ebay. Was a great bass. I played many gigs on it...But it just never had the output that my 2006 30th did. It also had a rusty pitted pickup that just would not clean up. The pickup also had the two slanted pole pieces (E string and G string) that always seemed to bug me. I much prefered the four flat pole pieces on my 30th.

It cut out at a practice once then eventually died on a gig. I bought a jack from EBMM and had a friend replace it. Still nothing. So I sent it off to EBMM and told them to replace the pickup, preamp and a set of mutes which were not there when I bought the bass. Their prices were quite reasonable and they slapped on a new set of group III flats free of charge.

As it turns out, AJ told me my friend had the imput jack wired improperly. But I'm happy with my decision to have the guts replaced. Now the bass has good output and sounds as loud and incredible as my 30th does. The 30th seems warmer and a little less harsh. but both basses sound great.

Thanks EBMM for taking care of my bass and for the great service.

IMG_0889.JPG Hi all !
I'm Franck, newbie from France.

I've just purchase an old Stingray, from 1994, it was a choice. I really like early 90's Stingrays.

The finished (confirmed with serial number) is Trans White maple. And it seems to be rare... i can't really find another one.
But when i received it, this bass was painted in yellow (awfull), directly on the older finition. I washed it totally with acetone, and I was very surprised that it was not sanded !!! A good luck for me. The original finition appears me.
