"Gig lag."

It's like jet lag, but you don't have to travel across time zones to suffer from it.

It happens when you finally land in bed at 4 am, but you wind up waking up at your usual early-morning time (say, 7:30 or 8 AM) for the usual reasons... kids, pets, or just habit.

And you

CAN

NOT

GET

BACK

TO

SLEEP!!!

(just pulling your leg... it's real, but nobody will notice except writers and editors)

We have something on the calendar in September at a place in Staten Island, NY - I think we play until well after 2AM and the ride is a good 90 minutes from my home...

We're considering sleeping in the truck.

You start feeling like a zombie or you end up old and ugly like me! I did that for close to 25 years.

If I were a bass, I guess you'd say I had lots of "mojo" - nicks and dings with most of the polish worn off.

What I really hate is how hungry I am at 2 or 3 in the morning after playing all night (and usually working all day). I come home and raid the fridge. Heaven forbid I see an open Taco Bell or Waffle House on the drive home. All that grease and sugar turns into "gig gut", which is not all that bad. It helps tip the bass to just the right angle when I'm standing up playing, of course.

I'm loving playing in this show band at the moment. Latest finishing gig I've had with them so far has been 10.30pm (2 x 60 minute sets, starting at 8.00pm sharp). I guess that's a late night given the audience demographics (we play a show that consists of tunes from Grease plus a set of 70's disco classics).

Oh, and obligatory gig pics - no action shots, sorry, just me with my cell phone camera before the gig. If you look closely my new pearl purple Stingray is in the stand, ready to kick arse in the disco set ...

IVe been on the road for over a week with the GC sessions and I dont know how I did some of the things I did in the past...One year I played 23 shows in one week at the Franikfurt show and then did 10 cities in 11 days....and I drank then.

Im tired....One more show.

The funny thing is that we cant get food either...,.Im trying to eat better and treat the guys to a real meal and we got lucky last night but in San Jose and Orlando we were room service in the lounge......

Gig Lag....yep...I suffer from it. I am so amped up AFTER the show as well as tired as an old dog...but...I just can't sleep. I end up reading for about 3 hours. I finally doze off about 3 in the afternoon after a show. My usual time getting home...4 a.m. as I have to eat at a 24 hour pancake house after the gig.

not getting back to sleep isn't a problem for me! Got woken up by the postie at 8:45 am the other day, promptly went to empty my bladder, have a glass of water and slept for another 3 hours!

Man I'm right there with you, Friday night show, in bed at 4am and up at 8 am. I couldn't tell if I was still drunk or just tired. Gotta do it all over again this Friday, and the next, and the next...but I think I'll sleep in this time!

Same here, during holidays I can sleep 14 hours a night, no matter what time I get in/go to bed. Just the other day I fell asleep before I made it to my bed and slept until 11. Maybe it happens as you get older...

Thanks to marching band and indoor experience, I'm used to this sort of stuff.

If you were on my bus and started making these complaints, I'd call you a pansy and tell you to get your ass in gear and unload the truck.

Keep in mind, my directors were/are not exactly young.. and they were leading the pack, responsible for 180 high schoolers every friday night.

But then again, I'm a little bit of a purist. I'm also 18.

lol, if you called me a pansy, I'd open up the emergency back door on the bus, throw you on your arse, and give you the international peace sign as the rest of us "old folks" drove off. But then again, I'm only 36, and I'm not that old.
