Im toying around with the idea of trading my Ernie Ball Music Man Axis guitar for a JP 7 string (must have Piezos) or an Ibanez 7VWH JEM (must have Lo-Pro and Ebony Board) Or Ibanez UV777BK (must have Lo-Pro 7 Trem.)

Im working on pics at the moment. Hope to have some up later tonight.

The Axis is in 9 out of 10 condish! Comes with OHSC. Black Dimarzio Clip-Lock Strap and Plant Waves Sholder Pad.

The guitar is set up with 9s and has the EVH D-Tuna installed. Will include original parts if you dont want the D-Tuna.

I am willing to shell out "some" extra cash for the trade.

*GASP* trade for the Pet 7 string, for get Ibanez dude, the JEM sucks. I had a 90th Ann JEM and i sold it last year to get my first EBMM guitar, my Luke, never looked back.

I was an Ibanez whore for years until I discovered EBMM. You can't go back to mass production after these beauties. Get the JP. The Jem and UV are £600 guitars being sold for 3 times their worth.

very true Ali, the ibanez's just feel cheap compared to the EBMM range, you can really tell the difference in class. whole other ball park

Very early Jems were nicely built and reasonably priced. I bought an '89 777VBK in '93 for £600 and it was mint. Solid build, nice PAF tone similar to the DLR days era Vai, and that lasted me nearly a decade! I tried various later models and they were horrible. They felt cheap, had far lower build tolerances and poorer component quality and the Breed and Evo pickups did nothing for me. I bought a UV7 PBK because that felt more substantial than the Jem and sounded more like the early ones, but was still disappointed. It never stayed in tune and everytime you used the trem it actually creaked!!! Then I tried an Axis and Luke....sold the UV that week! Ordered the Luke and when that arrived I was so bowled over with it I ordred the Axis 2 days later! And now I'm mulling over the Y2D or another Luke (if this maple rumour comes true...please tell me one way or the other BP....pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease)

I played Ibanez Jems almost exclusively for years, and though I'd never go so far as to say they "suck" - in fact, I rather liked mine, and I had seven of them at one point - I will say that EBMMs are a couple of steps above them in terms of materials and build quality... oh, and service; I had a couple of Jems that had the familiar finish cracks in the neck pocket and Ibanez never even returned my emails regarding them. My one phone call to the Canadian distributor resulted in a "well, we don't do anything about that" response...

Well, a used UV777BK will cost less than a new JP7, so if money is a consideration, the UV may be more attainable. I have both the UV777 and the JP7, and I really like them both. However, if they were the same price, I would have to say the go for the JP7 (better built, better finishing, more versatile with piezo, EBMM customer service, more color choices, etc.)

I used to have 2 UVs, and I got them used - actually, I bought my UV7BK from Jimi D back in 2001 but I sold it last year. For the price, they were great playing and sounding guitars. Having said that, I would have had a harder time convincing myself to buy one at full price or buying one after playing the EBMM.

Don't do it man.....I bought a 2003 Jem 7VWH just so I could be Vai but never played it. Its a museum piece! Sold it last month and bought a JP6 with Piezo. The Jems are great instruments if thats what you really want and up until about 4 years ago I wouldn't have looked at anything else never miind EBMM. Fortunately for BP I was turned to the dark side by a fellow forumite here!

EBMM now in my books wins hands down. I'm not scared to play my Balls. They all want to be played regularly!

The Ibanez' are flash guitars for flashiness sakes! EBMM are quality instruments and very understated (Mr Horsepower not including) but produce tone like nothing else...

I guess coming from an 80s background where I played nothing but Kramer, Charvel/Jackson and Ibanez, I'm now evolving and have found something that compliments my change in playing style and can accomodate all my styles and techniques that includes nowadays more than just sweep, sweep, tap, tap, whammy, whammy, legato, legato, alternate pickerama.

I think its called mellowing in older age (although I'm only in my 30th year!)
