hey guys. i have a question for you all. i've been playing the bass for about 4 months now. the first bass i've owned is an epi elitist eb3. i bought it with no playing under my belt. well after 4 months with it. i was at G.C. and i picked up a SR. and man i was blown away,this thing just felt way better than my epi. so here is my question. would it be better to a get a SUB. or a SR. i dont plan to stop playing anytime soon. and the epi will be traded in. i just dont want to have to go back later(hopefully when im better) and need a better bass.

If the SR felt like the bass of your dreams at GC then I would suggest you play your Epi until you can get that SR.

There is nothing bad to say about a SUB either. You just didn't say one had blown you away.

Either would last you for 20 years. Unless you get like some of us and just have to keep getting a new bass.

You don't give up much - mostly finish - between a SUB and a Stingray, but my thinking is, "Get the best instrument you can". And it doesn't matter if we're talking EBMM or another brand.

That said, a SUB is a perfectly giggable bass; I wouldn't hesitate to do any show with a SUB nor would I worry about recording with one.

Go for what you really want, though, because in a year or less, you won't worry about how much you spent, but you'll still have the bass.

(And don't trade that Epi in - sell it outright and you'll get more for it.)

thanks for the feed back. new the epi was around a grand. i really dont know what is a fair price for it. its in perfect shape. but ebmm gets a thumbs up from me.

Also, the SUB models have been discontinued.. just so you know. You may not be able to find one down the road.

As for not wanting to move up twice.. boy, you're in the wrong place! There's a bunch of gear-swapping junkies on this forum.. and if you don't watch, they'll rub off on you!

The Japan-made Epiphone Elite range are excellent instruments, however as someone who owns several basses that were produced in the same factory that manufactures Epi Elites, as well as several EBMM basses, I'll happily put on record that EBMM basses are a class above. The overall quality control consistency of EBMM instruments is second to none, and the finish quality and electronics are in a league of their own.

I'll tell you from experience that GC is not gonna give you anything close to what you might expect for your epiphone.
When I was younger and ,hopefully, much dumber I traded them a bunch of gear, and I was taken for a ride.
Granted, I don't know the best way to sell your current bass for the most money, but eBay w/ reserve or craigslist might work. Maybe others can chime in.
That being said, when trading stuff in, you usually get hosed.

Also, I'd say get a real stingray over a sub.
It'll take longer to buy, but you will never regret it! I've had my 1st, bought from a GC, for 10 trouble free years. And it's still sexy as hell.

Back in high school, me and a buddy each bought our first basses at about the first time. He has since sold his and now regrets it. I still have mine (although it is truly a piece of crap), and am glad I kept it, just for sentimental reasons.

Just food for thought.

Eithe way, eBay would be a better deal for selling it than trading it back in to Guitar Center.
