I love 80's pop almost more than life itself. Gimme a little Kajagoogoo, The Fixx, Thompson Twins, Culture Club....you name it and I love it. I think that my love for the Stingray tone grew out of the music of the 80's and the funk of the late 70's ala the Bros Johnson and the Dazz Band (I think he played a Sabre). My favorite 80's icon is Sade and Paul Denman's Stingray tone is the yardstick that I measure others buy. I just got this little GK 400RB head from Mr Chuck Moses and together with my 87 Stingray and ye old SWR Goliath Jr....I have MY SOUND. I love this combo. Tight bottom, snappy hi's and a nice dry mid scooped tone that just says SLAP ME!

I loathe the 80s. Couldn't even watch the first 2 videos in their entirety. Not sure if it was just that period of my life (AIDS took waay too maby people that I knew), or if I really just hated the music. When glam rock, new wave, and all the van halen like guitarists hit mtv and the radio I pretty much packed away my music gear and got into theater. I think Nirvana and Greenday pulled me back out of my musical shell. My favorite dacade for music, and especially bass, is the 70s. Hands down. I was just listening to a compilation on my new mp3 player :) while running and I was bugging out at the greatest basslines in some of the cheesiest songs. Bobby Sherman - easy come, easy go - 3 dog night - easy to be hard (although I don't consider that cheezy). Just about every pop song I grew up with in the 70s had an awesome, heartfelt bassline.

While the basslines in the first 2 yoootoob posts here were cool, they seem so devoid of any emotion. They make my spine tingle like the time I accidentally got a huge waterbug in the palm of my hand while I was cleaning some papers out from under a desk. Alright - maybe not that much.

I loved the 80's. Like "Go West", Kaja, Japan(Mick Karn) , the Fixx, and Level 42
It was a bass dominated decade.

I can respect your opinion on the 80s, but Nirvana and Green day are flat crap! John B. Gayden, Lee Rocker, Larry Graham, Bootsy Collins, Jaco, etc... That's emotional playing... Nirvana is nothing more than childish rebellion, and Green Day is McDonalds poser punk. My opinion, of course. I do agree there was some cool bass playing in the 70s -- Frank Zappa stuff for example :)

Although my thing is mostly classic rock and Motown, there were quite a few bands in the 80's that I still hold in high regard today (as far as what they did then; maybe not their current material):

*The Police
*Duran Duran
*Motley Crue
*Madness
*Stray Cats
*Def Leppard
*Van Halen
*U2
*INXS
*Anthrax
*Metallica
*Megadeth
*SRV
*Oingo Boingo
*Fishbone
*RHCP

I didn't know that Mc Donalds served punk rock.

I'm glad Madness finally got a mention
