I turned up last night for a Jam night and was carrying my LEAL in with me.

The organisers come up to me and says "Is that a bass - cos we are desperate for a bass player!"

I say "What the hell" - (I wanted to be a bass player when I was 16 and lost out on this preference by tossing a coin with a buddy - he became a bass player - I took up guitar.)

I played the "house bass" for best part of half an hour and thoroughly enjoyed it- even had some great compliments and a kiss on the cheek:eek:. Mr & Mrs OlPlayer were there too.

Later I played my AL through a Matchless amp - wowza! The owner of the amp was very complimentary too about the sound I had with my Albert- shoot I just plugged in and off I went on his settings!!

So before I get lured forever to the "Dark side" I need help - or maybe I need a Big AL Bass

If you get a Al bass then I will have to follow. For you are my ALOC leader.

ummm, just get the bass Spud.

:p

Oh I wish I could - my wallet reads:- nothing, nil, nix, null, aught, ,naught, zero, zilch, zip, F' all !!

Dollar to Pound mucho strong!

Pound to Spud's wallet mucho weak.

Still can't grumble with the gear I DO have. I'l just pluck away on a Yammy bass my son has on loan.

We can't all afford Lefty MD JP's ha!;)

Although it might be wiser to pickup a Sterling Sterling/Stingray or a Sub1 bass just in case you decide its not really you.

At any jam there are always 10 guitarists (all needing a tedious 5 minute solo) for every bass player, drummer & singer. I play both, though I haven't got the buying bug for basses....have done MANY gigs with the Fender Jazz I bought in '84. I like playing both, though I find it harder to sing & play bass at the same time.
I'd say buy a cheap usable bass or borrow your son's rather than think about a huge $$$$$$ MM bass....after all it's just Bump Thud Bump Thud isn't it??? (Shan't post that on the bass side!!)

Unless I win the lottery/euro millions there is no way I can go out and spend big bucks on a bass. Just emptied the wallet on a nice Digital SLR camera. besides it's my 30th wedding anniversary this year and I want to make it to that!!

So I'll plod away on the Yamaha Pacifica and if I do get caught by the bass bug I'll get saving again.

But just wanted to say that I enjoyed "The Bass gig" on Thursday" - I'll see if I can get a photo?

Spud my dear friend it looks like we are following some parallele road :D

I did it, I stepped into the dark side few month ago with an instrument from a different age : The Viola Bass from Epiphone that I got from Dave B shop in the UK.

I start playing it in the band more and more and really enjoy it. We are a 4 pcs band with 2 guitars a Keyboard and a singer. We use a sequencer for rythm and bass part but when there is no need for 2 guitars I take the bass.

Today I decided that Epihone was nice to start with but wanted something more modern with more balls :D

I just purchased this from IslandBoy

As you can see, I'm not assuming completly my dark side reason why I took a Stealth Bass :p
